This is why many second hard m3 are near tip top shape.

i second this. i have my rev limit raised to 8600 and on certain portions of the track i use almost every bit of it every lap. i have only hit the limiter and bounced of it once. i didnt realize i was in the wrong gear and felt like an idiot on the front straight of the ridge.

I just got my e92, but I drive it like I've had it for 10 years. IT feels pretty bullet proof.
Hopefully that won't change once I start adding performance mods. All mods so far have just been cosmetic. |

How hard I push it all depends upon what condition the battery is in. I haven't had to push it yet.

Was that your first time out there? What kind of lap times did you see?

How hard do I push the M3? Well, logged over 50 track days so far and I would estimate around 12 WOT-and-upshifts-at-redline per lap, averaging 6 laps per session and around 4 sessions per track day, and with most of that time spent between 5,000 to 8,300 rpm. I think that comes out to... around 15,000 flatout WOT cycles?
I haven't done WOT on the streets/freeways for I don't know long now.

I personally usually leave a little bit on the table on the upper end, even at the track. I'm not really interested in shaving time by using every last rev (more interested in shaving time through better cornering and overall technique, etc), so I might occasionally shift a little before the yellow zone, especially when WOT in 4th gear which could have you in the yellow zone for quite a bit. WOT in 3rd I tend to go higher since I'm pulling harder and therefore minimizing time in the upper range there. I haven't run a track where you'd downshift to 2nd so that's completely off the table for me, but I might get near redline in 2nd and even 1st on the road here and there.
But this question brings up yet another reason I believe that M3 owners who never take their cars to the track will never fully appreciate or understand how truly outstanding a car it is and why certain design decisions were made, e.g. higher redline vs more torque, steering clear of fatter rear tires, etc. You can't really stay in the upper rev range even on back roads, at least on 6MT. Staying in 2nd gear the entire time would get tiresome, but 3rd gear doesn't top out until 105 MPH, which isn't really a realistic speed range for back roads where you generally only have one lane in each direction (and therefore no room to slide the car), little warning of oncoming traffic, and probably no reasonable runoff area. The track meanwhile shows you exactly why 3rd gear is geared in the awesome way that it is, not to mention that barely hanging on through a corner at high speeds (even sliding a bit) while the engine is already turning maybe 5K before powering out of it is so life-affirming.
