272D looking for wiring gurus

Sadly no flat rate mechanic is gonna give much of a shit about our cars other than using them to flag hours. The old saying if you want something done right… etc. I’ve had a trusted and reputable shop I’ve been using for years overfill my oil by a quart on a car that only took 4.3L. Mistakes happen and nobody wants to cop to them. I hate having to double check work that I pay for. But I do it. At my age I’m even starting to slip. Under torquing bolts and forgetting to mark them with a paint pen.

I really need to get ISTA(anybody want to hook me up with the installation files?) and you really need to get yourself a lift. Consider the Max Jack, I got one and its been a game changer. I should have just gotten a full height lift but wanted the flexability of easily removing the posts. If you only have 8' ceilings, then it is perfect for you.

I have trust issues to begin with but I learned a long time ago, nobody is going to put as much care into my car as myself so I really try to do as much as possible myself for all the reasons you described...and to think you paid good money for that service, its a slap in the face but buyer beware (at a dealership no less!).

This thread feels like a great place to follow up with a similar issue I have been having that I am pretty sure is a wiring issue on my front 02 sensor. Code is 2725 - Lambda sensor electric diagnostic VKAT bank 2. I have replaced the sensor with a brand new one and it comes back immediately. Previous owner had a wire repair listed in his service history.

I'm going to be doing a similar diagnostic attempt as OP (with my lift ) thanks to the images posted but I really need to get my hands on ISTA...I've got Pro Tool and INPA but I'm really missing out I think.

ISTA can be grabbed from a multitude of online sellers. I can’t remember where I got mine. I recall it was like $20-$30 bucks. Then you’ll need a KD-can cable for like $30. If you need help testing your O2 cables PM me your cell # and I’d be happy to help. Basically just remove the cowel to get to the ECU and have a multimeter. The ECU is just below the passenger windshield by the passenger hood shock. A simple continuity test is all you need to do. Looking back in retrospect I should have just started with this once I swapped my O2’s and nothing changed. You could start by swapping O2 sensors from left to right and then see if the error changes. If it does then all ya need is a new O2.

Edit:I missed that you tried a new O2 already. Next step would be a continuity test at this point.

Thank you, I will reach out if I have any issues. I will look for ISTA as you suggested. I've got a Bimmergeeks K+DCAN cable already. Right, already replaced O2 sensor so will be checking continuity next.

Look for ISTA version 4.39.20 -- this is the version I'm currently running. It's nearly 130 GB for the install file.

If I recall correctly the version I got from bimmergeeks was an older version that didn’t include the ignition test ABL.

INPA is also an option. I use all the BMW tools. ISTA is great because it will give you a troubleshooting coarse with schematics. INPA has a great real time data monitors. All the BMW tools were part of my ISTA. In this post those are the screenshots I put up. You can see in my example that one sensor is giving a reading in the 700’s but my bad sensor is at 425 which is just base reading, ie no signal at all. I figured this out by unplugging both sensors on purpose with the car running and now both stayed at 425. Very useful for my final fix. When I hooked up my temp wire, the reading for bank 2 immediately jumped up to 700’s and started reporting.
