The 19s are an inexpensive option but the price difference and the difference in looks was not enough to justify buying them for my car. If I do pay for wheels, they need to look better and more unique. Nearly every M3 will arrive here with the 19" wheel option. Now, the 18s are the less common wheels and they don't look that bad. $1200 can go a long way with aftermarket wheels and if you sell your old wheels and tires you can probably have at least $800 more for the new wheels and tires.

now that greg has actually weighed his 19's - I would be they weigh about the same as the 18's.
the stock e46 M3 18's are HEAVY.

I went 19s for the look...I think the 18s look a bit utilitarian.

I have 19" BBS rs-gts already and am buying the 19s because the rubber costs that much and my PS2's will not last forever. In addition I like the wheels.

I was also considering the 18's and getting 19's bbs Lm-r's however I like the look of the factory 19's. The 19's just look so much better in my opinion that the additional 1200 was well worth it.

can I change my vote - voted for the 18's but recently converted to 19. they dont weigh as much as we thought and look best with jet black. 18's look a bit too small on the e92 also just MO.

Just curious, why do you say there is no way the 18s cannot weigh 4 pounds less than the 19s? I think it's possible, I'll weigh mine next chance I get to take off my wheels. Has anyone actually weighed the 18s yet?

Well, all info points to the 18s being cast and the 19s forged. Most cast 18s are well in excess of 20 lb., and the design certainly doesn't skimp on metal.

It's settled!!! Someone with 18's needs to step up like Greg did. Pull em' off and put them on the scale. I am going to guess that the 18s are no more than 2lbs less in weight. That is based on nothing but, throwing out bull*#%* is fun now and again.

I'm going 19's as the 19's on my current E46 have survived some crazy potholes in my town. Stock forged wheels 4tw.

I think Greg is right - the 18's are cast and larger than the e46 18 inch cast wheels - I beleive they were upwards of 26-28 pounds.

That was the weight of the E46 18s - 26#F, 28#R.

Could not have said it better my self. I can put the $1200 towards some light forged 19s and use the 18s on track days.

I have the 19"s and am absolutely in love with them. My neighbor keeps on going "nice wheels" everytime he sees me. Cosmetically, they are hot!

They are within a pound or two of each other--not a factor to base the decision on unless you're racing.

thanks, how did you find out? I made this poll long time ago and at the time I was under the impression the 19" were 4 or 6 lbs more (which it is starting to seem was not true).

E9x M3 OEM wheel weight
Quote:
- I weighed the 19s with tires here (post #10), http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...t=wheel+weight, and concluded the weights were around 23#F/26.5#R for the 19s. - Exact tire weight was obtained from Michelin by En Rouge here (post #74), http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...t=wheel+weight, which increased the accuracy of the weights and yielded 23.6#F/26.1#R for the 19s. - In the same post it was stated that the weights on a German website for the 18s are (rounded): 23.2#F/24.9#R. As far as I know, this is uncofirmed by another source. - The E46M3 18s were about 26#F/28#R. The best way to resolve this once and for all is to weigh the 18s and 19s bare on the same scale.
