As far as the stroker engine in subject, is the 5.7 liter v10 the same engine that will go into the next gen. M5 and M6...or is this engine from the current gen. M cars and just bored out?...does anyone know anymore on the development of this engine or it's origin? I don't know much about Dinan's stroker engines.

I would be far more interested in a quality twin turbo set up or even a supercharger rather than an oversized stroker engine.
I rarely question anything Dinan puts together, but I just can't see myself entertaining this engine-swap idea. On that subject... anybody heard of any twin turbos in developement?

Krank - I gotta go with you and Porshapwr on this one. I'm all about Dinan and I've been real patient, but I bought the car for the motor, so I'm not likely to do a swap. I'm keen to see what the reviewers think of the V8 stroker kit when it comes out, but I think I might rather go forced induction.
Or both. Is that feasible?

A twin turbo kit will cost an arm and a leg and I doubt we will see one (or when we do the next gen will be out). The reason we saw turbos on th E46 was because it was an I6. A supercharger makes far more sense for the V8 and would fit relatively easily in the space of the stock airbox (centrifugal that is). Twin turbos are a whole different design and the fact that BMW has a twin turbo V8 does nothing for this motor as they are two completely different designs. The Dinan stroker is based on the stock V10 and it is not the motor going in the next gen M5, no correlation. |

3 seconds? How do you think they are going to accomplish that, massive drag slicks at the back or by re-engineering the car to have AWD?

Well, anyway, Dinan sure is taking his sweet time in developiing these things. Now, I think I would rather have a 500+ hp V8 (or a 580 hp turbo V8)than a heavy V-10. We´ll see. V-10 may be too heavy IMO and probably way too expensive as well. V-8 storker may be manageable in terms of economics.

I don't know how much heavier the V10 is, but a FI V8 might not be a whole lot lighter either with the compressors, pipes, and possibly a heavier block. If you're concerned about weight, the stroker V8 would be the lightest alternative. But in Mexico City, I would assume FI would be highly desirable due to altitude effects.

depends on how expensive, does anyone know anything about price for the v-10? but supercharger or turbos would be better. the stroker would be overkill; weight, power
