Lol, they're not that good, you can see they've worn through at least 4 layers, but certainly not bad by S65 standards.

He's talking about Latinskllz 's VAC bearings he replaced with B.E. bearings after 76K miles using the VACs. Here's an image of his VAC bearings with 76K miles on them:

Ah yea, my bad, somehow missed the quote!
PS 76k on those VAC bearings was assumed, he had no info telling him when they were changed, only that we would've thought the previous owner would've said if he had them changed.
Pity really, if they are VAC bearings on 76k (actually 74k IIRC), that would've been a very rare and useful data point for aftermarket bearing wear!

Just bought my 08 E90 M3 two weeks ago. Barely drove it as I was scared about the rod bearings. Got them done yesterday.

148k miles on the original bearings. Replaced with BE bearings. Looks like I JUST made it in time!

Hi all, i am in the process of doing the rod bearings on my 2011 e92 m3 and have a question regarding ARP rod bolts.
I dropped the oil pan i discovered that the bearings have been changed at some point. Arp rod bolts used. They do differ from my BE package Arps. The ones i am removing from the car now state: ARP 625 plus 15.
So 2 questions: 1. What is the difference between BE arp and 625? 2. Should i reuse ARP 625?

There is various info on the bolts to search up but in short the 625 is stronger than the BE 2000 version. Believe both are reuseable at least the 625 should be.
BE's "special" version is I believe lower cost than the 625, and BE also claim the lesser clamp (torque) result in better shape.

The bearing shown is btw ACL Racing, 1580HX is the extended clearance version. I have this + the 625 bolt in since a number of years back.

Questions in return mate:
- Whats your reason to change the bearings?
- Could you provide more pictures and mileage/useage info on the ACL bearing?

Edit. Just spotted your other thread on the sump drain plug/reason to replace bearings. Would still be VERY interesting to get good pictures on the complete set of rod shells mate.

Helmsman , when I purchased the car, the previous owner had 1 picture of the car on jack stands and some vague receipts of BE Bearings, and no invoices of work being done. Hence I wanted to perform the job anyway. So it looks like he was giving me BS info since the bearings installed are not BE/BE ARP rod bolts but as we see - ACL with ARP 625. So most likely one of the owners prior to him did the job.
I will post pictures of all bearings once I am done.

Got it, thanks. Although BE made measurements and claimed the ARP 2000 provided better roundness (can't find this info anylonger, seems they have taken it down?), the ARP 625 is certainly being used for the S65 by various shops. It is also promoted for the S65 rod bolts byt ARP, which surely must be worth something. I personally wouldn't hesitate to have them reused but will be interesting to hear about your final decision and finding.
Ps. I guess you will be able to see on shells wear if the roundness is totally out of whack.

And again, really looking forward to some high resolution pictures on the shells!

I was able to find some time to complete the bearing change. Looks like lower bearings are ACL HX and the uppers are H. Mileage on these is unknown. I have decided to use complete BE kit: Bearings and rod bolts. I did not reuse ARP 625 just to be safe.
I still need to fix the stripped oil drain plug in the oil pan in order to reassamble everything. Also doing a full front suspension refresh while i am at it.
Doing the job at home in my garage so i am just taking my time. Possibly another week or so to finish up.

Thanks for the pics, we rarely get to see a used set of aftermarket bearings. Any idea how many miles were on these?

Unknown mileage. My car has 125K and i purchased it at 120K.

Looking up close, bearings look to be in good condition with very consistent wear. No weird diviations.
I havent looked at other alternatives really, just went with the common BE package
