No comfort access picture
Anyone got a picture of the ignition and key of a M3 without comfort access? Just curious to see one. I searched this forum and could not find anything.
If I order an M3 it will not have CA so just curious to see what it looks like. Can CA be ordered as a stand alone option? Thanks. |

It looks the same except the key is slightly different because you can take it apart to replace the battery.

CA cannot be ordered separately. You will need to order the Convenience Package to get CA.

What is different though, is the sensor stripes on the exterior door handle.

I am finding that comfort access doesn't always work. Most of the time I keep the key in my pocket and open the door without any issues but around 20% of the time it just doesn't work as I am forced to take the key out of my pocket and press the unlock button.
Anyone else have the same sort of issues?

The key is the same. My 135i doesn't have comfort access. You won't get the sensor stripes on the door handles plus your key needs needs to be plug in when starting vehicle.
BMW comfort access isn't working as great as the other smart key system I have. My Lexus works 100% with the smart key system. BMW seems to work around 70% of the time especially the trunk one. I have a few sensors replaced and they gave me a pair of new keys. Still quite often they won't work well together.

Yeah it's not 100% but hard to say. I've dropped my key a few times, no idea if this factors into it or not. Comfort Access comes standard in Aus which is nice.

Here's a pic of my keys. The key on the left is the M3 key and is non-CA. The key on the right is the 335i key and is CA. All 3-series/M3 keys are the same so the 335i CA key looks exactly like an M3 CA key would. As someone said above, the only difference is that the CA fob has the removeable cover on the back so you can change the battery since it is not rechargeable. On the front side they look identical.
Note: the icons on the back are just stickers. I put them there so it is easier to tell the keys apart with a quick glance (The 335i key used to have the girl icon, but I switched with the wife's key at some point for some reason). |

Thanks guys. I did no know the key fobs were exactly the same for CA and non CA.
Can someone snap a picture of the actual ignition of heir M3 for a non CA car? I am curious to see where you physically put in the key into and how I looks like for non CA cars. |

sorta. On the s2000 you actually have to turn the key, which doesn't make much sense, and then you press the button.

Our 2011 CA does nit need to be charged right? Cause I argued with the SA at BNW. Went to change oil and she read my key and said my car isn't due yet!! I told her no mam it IS. She said the key says no. I got pissed off (how hard could it be to figure out that your car needs service) and I said, the key may not need service but I assure you the car does. She went to the car and came back and of course I confronted her (so does the car need service?) she said yes but you don't put the key in ignition to charge it this way it reads latest data. I said it is nit chargeable and the whole day went south after that. So please confirm that to me so next time I see her rrrrrr

Unless they forgot to change the owners manual...mine says..."In cars with Comfort Access*, the remote control contains a replaceable battery, refer to page 35"
Page 35 states "The remote control for Comfort Access contains a battery that will need to be replaced from time to time." Then proceeds to show you how to do that. 3V battery inside...looks just like the ones I use for my garage door openers...handy. Reminds me of the dispute I had at my dealership when the guy insisted I had run flats on the car

I don't understand why BMW didn't put a rechargeable battery in the key fob so that, when the battery gets low, you plug it in to the car to charge.
I thought all BMW keys did that ever since they put the lock/unlock into the key fob itself. |

In regards to CA not working sometimes:
My observation that it does cough if the door handle is wet. This might be because of the difficulty of sensing capacitance in wet conditions, assuming they're using capacitive sensing.

AFAIK, the non-CA key fobs have this already. Which makes even less sense not to put this in CA key fobs, unless there is a area problem due to wireless transmitter.

Ironically replacing the battery is probably even less convenient for many, because who keeps spares of those around? Nevertheless, people are accustomed to trading off the need to replace batteries for the ability to be able to continue using a device immediately. |
