Why would I buy the BMW seat? I'm 99.9% sure Recaro's or any other brand will be much less expensive. If BMW wants to do this properly, they should offer it as an option when we're buying the damn car. That way it will only be an upgrade instead of trying the sell the normal seats...

Without airbags I don't see this happening.

I wonder what this will cost...

Any predictions?! I'm thinking if it even makes it to the US market, it has got to be in the $70K ballpark for the e90...

Doubt we will see these on the market anytime soon. Theres no airbags in the seats even.
Why do seats need airbags? Serious question. Steering wheel is not enough?

I am honestly surprised that my car has seat airbags - or is the on newer cars.

I guess it is for side impacts. But I don't think they have to be on the seats. I think they can be on the door, B pillar, from the roof etc... Unless we have the seats with eject function. In that case a parachute would be nice as well

This might be a showcase type item. Showcasing what they can do after they bought that CF facility in the Northwest.

^ Thats my thinking.

Do the BMW performance seats have airbags on them?

I just cant recall BMW releasing any parts that were available for the U.S market and were not DOT approved.

Im sure im wrong though..

these are definitely some cool parts!! i wonder if we'll be seeing more aftermarket E90 CF hoods coming out in the near future.

I believe the original BMW Performance seats did have side airbags.

Looks great for one lap around the track, not so good for a multi-hour drive. Also, I hope this sort of seat comes with a racing seatbelt/restraint since the standard belt allows too much head travel with only a piece of hard carbon fiber behind your noggin in case of impact (unless the intent of the lightweight M3 is only to be used when the driver is wearing a helmet, which isn't likely since it is after all a sedan)..

Airbags were moved from the doors (e46) to the seats (e9x/e8x). Occupancy monitoring (OC3) is also different from US vs EU models.

These seats will likely never see US soil.
