For those of you with manual cars - I just discovered how to allow starting without your foot on the clutch.
Also - not on the list - allowing the windows to open/close even when interrupted by a door being opened. |

Yes it is. But it's not a good idea to toy around with it. It is - after all - the main reason why BMW's are so difficult to steal.
DVD in Motion update: I have tested DVD in motion on a number of vehicles, and have been successful every time. I am very happy to report the ability to offer this to m3post members! |

....For passengers ....As an alternative to music (..sometimes LISTENING to your favorite movie is just as enjoyable as watching it) ....etc. I personally find it no different that fiddling around with iDrive while in motion. Those of us with iDrive glance at the display many times while driving (..placing BT calls, inputting addresses, etc.), so what makes that any different than glancing at a movie while driving? Sure, you can argue that it's "unsafe", but that's an extremely slippery slope. |

I have Video in motion on my 1990 7 Series. It was as easy as switching two wires going to the head unit
I think the main reason for it is for your passengers - kids, whoever. You certainly shouldn't be watching while driving! I can also set the speed at which the video playback turns off. So if you'd like 65mph, 100mph, or 180 mph, I can set it to them or anything in between. Not that anyone should be watching TV in the car at 100+ MPH |

Does all the coding go away when BMW does a software upgrade or reflash of your DME?

When this occurs, I work with the customer to get it back. It wouldn't be fair to pay anywhere near full pop to have it recoded. So far, only one re-do was needed out of tons of cars coded. Things such as alarm coding, bluetooth retrofits, etc, should stay in place even if the dealer recodes the whole car. |

Here you go!
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t...indicator.html I also have a few videos of it inaction on my M3 from today. Will post after I get them off of the phone. BMW efficient dynamics is absolutely amazing. I tried tricking it in a number of different ways, but it's very precise. The 6 speed cars do not know what gear you are currently in. The only thing it knows is if the gear shifter is in neutral, or if it is in a gear (all gears give the same reading to the ECU), and obviously if the clutch/brake is engaged or not. So basically it calculates what gear you are in (and thus what gear you should go to) based on the driving speed and rpm compared with your throttle position (and whether the clutch or brake is engaged). It probably also takes into account yaw and some other factors. It does a very good job of determining what gear you should go to depending on the throttle input, and will even tell you to skip gears, or downshift if necessary. It's also instantaneous. I love it and it's made a big difference for me. Last edited by BPMSport; 03-10-2011 at 07:58 PM.. |

We have video in our Lexus RX 400h with a separate view screen for the passengers in the rear. That makes sense to me. If my wife and I are the only people in the car (either the M3 or the Lexus) there's no need for video as we listen to music and talk to each other. If I have passengers in the back of the M3, they'd have to lean toward the center and watch video that way, and I'd have to listen to it. Sorry, I still don't get the appeal.

Another thing just added: Change the sensitivity of your adaptive xenons from slower --> normal --> sensitive.
I just tried it in my garage and it makes a big difference on how the headlights turn. I will try to post a video up of it in action! |
