A) Purchase cost of the car. B) Shipping cost to Italy. C) Insurance while in transit. D) What cost will there be if any in your country so that you can drive the car. E) Warranty issues etc. You need to research all that in order to establish if it is feasible and has a financial advantage or not. Good luck with your research. PS. My hunch is that you will properly be better off in finding one in Germany and driving it home ![]() Another way would be to find someone on the forum that likes to drive one on a European vacation trip (he then would purchase one in say Germany). You then could meet him purchase it and drive it home. That of course requires a lot of planning, still it does have potential for 2 parties if there is interest.

The very first thing I'd research is what import taxes are and how much it costs to get a US-spec car legal for use in Europe. |

If you buy a car from the US you will pay shipping fees, when the car gets to port you will have to pay 10% import tax and then 19% sales tax. I live in Germany and have a US spec E90 M3 I'll sell you. Fly into Frankfurt and drive it home.

You can do this but you have to pay all kind of fees. You can get without all this if you drive with your car to USA, and make so that it gets broken and you can't come back. Then there you buy your M3 and come back with it. This is not import, you went there and you car broke, you just took another.

Yes you can do it..as a matter of fact I own an Infiniti purchased from USA....the most important issue is to make a US import compliant for legal street use in your country, as there are some differences.
My car was imported by a car dealer that used to do this sort of imports on a regular basis, so all the necessary connections were oiled up properly. I would suggest you do the same, go find a dealer specialised in US imports...it'll cost you a little fee, but saves you a lot of headaches.

I was considering moving to Japan a few years back and wanted to ship my E46 M3 there. It would have cost $10k in shipping and taxes and not to mention that I would never be able to import it back to the US (didn't really understand why). In the end though it still would have made sense financially to do it. I decided not to move there and didn't go through with it.

If you are looking at a new car, BMW NA will insist that the car is registered in the US and that tax is paid for at the time of delivery. They have sent numerous memos warning dealers that if we do not, we risk losing our allocations or even our franchise. Used cars are entirely different but if you're going to buy new for export, you are probably going to have a problem.
