Or you can just opt against it since it is a stoopid option

In sportauto-magazin you can win the new M3 ...
... and they say the price is 66.000 Euro(Germany).
Usualy there are very well informed, they had all new engine details and photos already some days ago! Greetings Robert |

i dont see them charging 475 for metallic paint either on an M car. you get m colors with an m. that's a small part of the m exclusivity.

I had a gas guzzler tax on my '06 S4. I would imagine that the new M3 will have it too.

So what is the Euro MSRP on the RS4? Maybe we can get an idea based on that to compare what the US MSRP on the M3 will be. EDIT: Ok so I just checked, the Euro MSRP on the RS4 is $71,770 which translates to $95,600 USD. The US MSRP on the RS4 is $66,000 USD. You are saying that an sportauto mag "says" the E92 M3 Euro MSRP will be $66K. Which if we use the RS4 as an example that would mean the USD MSRP on the E92 M3 should run somehwere around the low $50K range since the RS4 EURO MSRP is about 25% higher than the USD MSRP. Anyone with me on that?

Man, low 50's would be ideal. My guess is high 50's, low 60's. We all may have been fucked over royally by Audi. The RS4 MSRP is $66,000, and in the industry, it's all about competitive pricing. BMW doesn't want their price to be too much lower than this, people tend to get the wrong impression. But then again, Mercs and Audi's tend to be more expensive than BMW's generally.
So what the hell am I saying. I'm saying I think the price will be (base MSRP) between $57-59,000. This keeps it under 60, so it doesn't look bad. The M3 is definetly moving up in the market, and starting to compete w/ heavy hitters like Porsches, Corvettes, previous generation Ferrari's, and the such and my guess is the 1 series will eventually take its place in the market bracket. I mean M3's in the future sure as hell aren't going to get cheaper. A 10 grand difference between generations is on the steep side, I'd say 5-6 grand is acceptable, and 3-4 grand is ideal. We'll see. God damn Carbon fiber roof,...that's where all the money's going...haha. |

My guess is BMW will be positioning the M3 to compete with heavy hitters such as 911. BMW priced the 335 reasonably and gave it previous generation M3 performance now the road is clear to set the price for the M3 on the high side, which in my opinion will start in the very high 50 or low 60 range for a base car add a few nice options and you're looking at a $65000 car.
Considering the mystique and the interest shown by would be buyers they will have no difficulty selling at high prices. As much as I would love to buy the M3 I will not put 60 grand into a car that regardless of its desirablity will still depreciate 30% or so in two-three years. I'm considering buying a second hand Cayman S. Low mileage examples are selling in the low 50s, thats almost 20 grand cheaper than a new model! after a couple of years of happy motoring I'll be back looking for some deals in the M3 market. I guess if you're not made of gold you have to be resourceful. |

I can't see why the M3 would be cheaper than the RS4 so I think low 50's is dreaming. But I'd be real happy to be wrong. The 3 series is generally more expensive than the A4 is it not?

BMW 335i vs Audi S4 = $38,900 vs $48,700 BMW 330i vs Audi A4 = $36,800 vs $37,640 BMW E46 M3 vs Audi RS4 = $48,900 vs $66,000 BMW E90 M3 vs Audi B7 RS4= $55,900 vs $66,000 An approximate 15% increase in pricing. Even a 20% increase in price will put the M3 below the RS4 in terms of pricing. Don't be surprised to see Audi lowering prices on the RS4- even the CEO of Audi suggested this last year. |

This is both good and bad. Good, since there is only ONE option, most of the features that BMW may have as options, you can figure that Audi made “standard” equipment and already figured it into the $66K MSRP. Bad, since Audi basically packaged a bunch of options together to get the car up to $71K, it might be safe to assume that a fully loaded M3 will be pushing $70K, likely in the high $60K range. Something else that NOBODY here acknowledges is that the RS4 is a very very limited produced car. Yes the M3 will not be as mass produced as the 335i or 328i, but I think Audi made something like 1000 RS4’s available to the US in the first year. I actually remember reading on Audiworld.com before the RS4 came out was that the US might only get around 750 in year one. I think that number may be a little on the lower side, but seeing is how the RS4 is a more limitedly produced car, one can certainly assume that that will effect the price on it.

By the way, another interesting thing is....
the price from the new Audi S5.
The BMW 335i price-performance killed the S4, so Audi had to react and so they positioned the S5 only 300 Euro(Germany)above the (old) S4!!! So you get the S5 for 55.900 Euro with the new direct-injection engine from RS4/R8(with lower hp but more torque!) and almost all extras included and the new coupe-form for almost the same price as S4. This shows that in reality the car got cheaper and BMW has also to take care, not to make the same mistake as Audi did with the price-calculation at S4/RS4! And a E93 Cabrio M3 with DSG will increase the price another 10.000 Euro, so they have to take care, not to get to near to M5-price! In one new austrian car-magazin, they say that the new M3 will be the first BMW, without any speed-limit!(without extra money and without driver- package) So over 300 km/h will be the stock-topspeed(only in europe?) ! The E46 M3 and the S4 are natural competitors which are similar in pricing whereas the RS4 is a whole higher level. If the the new E9X V8 M3 is to re-take the everyday performance car crown (and by the way match the considerable escalation the RS4 now requires for that mantle) it will be a lot more expensive than the E46 M3. But hey, nobody knows yet, we'll find out in time. And if I'm wrong it is all good. But why would BMW want to leave too much money on the table. It is a chance to move the M brand up. |
