M3 vs 6.3 AMG?

Considering some other options due to increase in family numbers... (traitor i know).
Im tempted byt the 6.3L AMG of some sort, and the ML and C are most tempting.
I know that the ML has more power (500bhp+) but not quite the pace of the C63(450bhp ish).
But if the C63 is a detuned version of the same engine as the ML or even the SLS, how easy is it to get the extra power out of the C?
Is is a simply a software update?
And who could do so?

Also C63 AMG sounds better, can the ML63 AMG sound be improved??

dont really think the c63 is any bigger than the m3 is it? didnt seem like it when I drove it.

I also think you can get the performance package which ups it to 500+hp and a lsd

Also, go check out a few of the C63 forums. You can get all your answers to mods and power there.

The C63 has a lot of potential.......a lot.

The OP is in the UK. Over there "brake horsepower" or BHP is the standard reference...

Last night some dude on the Ocean Pkwy had a sick E63 AMG tuned by Jeremy from OE. Thing was a beast and made this insane sound when it shifted.

He claimed his tune was giving him about 30hp. The same tune on his friends C63 gives 55hp. If I'm not mistaken, he mentioned something about how the 6.2 in the C is factory de-tuned, so the OE tune wakes it up more than in the E.

The C63 engine is very similar to the ML and E63 motors. The SLS has upgraded internals. However the new Performance Package plus available for the C63 gets you the SLS internals, and bumps the output to 480 bhp from the factory.

Also as you are in the UK, Mercedes offer a UK only special addition that is called the 520 something or other. But it actually puts out something like 507bhp.

C63 = Monster.

Main downside is the lack of a manual or dual clutch option. In the not too distant future Mercedes will likely drop their MCT (multi clutch transmission) in the C-AMG (likely when the coupe comes out). However that is really just a torque convert-less automatic that uses lots of wet plate clutches controlling drive to Mercedes 7 speed auto.

Have fun, and I envy your estate options.

Cheers

Just want to clarify that the engine in the C63 is the same as the ML63 and the rest of the 63 range. The C63 has been detuned to give it a lower horsepower rating. The P31 "Development Package" does borrow some internals from the SLS, however, this does not make it the same engine as the SLS. The SLS has dry sump lubrication and bears a different engine code than any other 63 model.

Main reason the C63 is "detuned" is because the engine compartment wasn't big enough to house the standard exhaust manifold of the same engine in other cars. Modified exhaust beyond the manifold would probably get you to 500hp easily.

LSD comes with the P31 package, or you can add it on as a stand-alone option

There are several tuners now for the C63. Tune prices range from $650 to $3500.

I have the Kleemann tune for $1495 and it put 417 to the wheels, that's 40 more whp than stock. That's a good bang for the buck.

My car has been super-reliable. I've taken the tour of the AMG engine facility in Affalterbach and it made me a fan for life. The best quality parts, installed by the very best technicians in a very controlled environment with accountability for everything in the production process. Stuttgart vs Munchen, a different perspective for sure - both are super to me!

in terms of track times, the m3 comes out on top. so what makes it a beast?
