Am I too picky when it comes to S65 performance tuning ?
Hi guys,
I plan to increase HP & TQ on my S65. Goal is to achieve 500 - 550 chp for my daily driver. There are a lot of opportunities to achieve this: supercharged: ESS: seem to have a great scalable kit. Gintani: works quite well, needs more psi to achieve power compared to ESS. G-Power: reputation issue. AA: looks good, but much more information would be needed. In general, SC noise will be an issue. na: Various ECU tunes are available. Still no flash @ home capability. - Use good gas. - Intake upgrades will come down to use a high-flow intake air-filter. - Midpipe seems to provide most power gains ( by deleting secondary catalysts only ). - By deleting the primary catalysts you will gain another ~ +8 whp. - Muffler upgrade will gain 3-5 whp, if any. - ECU tunes / Black Boxes will be needed to support deleted or changed primary catalysts configurations. - ECU tunes provide power gains as well. - Power pulleys help. - Water / water-meth configurations have still to be applied and to be tested. Compatibility to the knocking-system of the S65 ? Now, start with bolt ons or go with a supercharger. You might have to go back to stock configuration for various reasons. ESS 7.5 psi dyno's (not independent) vs. (independent) 9.0 - 9.5psi on other kits seem to be close with a 1.5 - 2psi difference and the one at 10 psi is making more, however ESS independent dyno's at .5 -1 psi less than 7.5psi have shown to be significantlly lower, even with the same supplemental bolt ons. When you look at the lower boost independent dyno's the #'s are all very close, but we only have one Dynojet Gintani low boost car, 5.5 psi at 500whp (FYI the boost level posted in the DDB is incorrect), the other was on a DD's that does read similar to a DJ though, and that was at 512whp, right around or more than what the other kits make at that boost level. FYI my intial Gintani 515whp results @ 8psi were inaccurate and not a true respresentation of what the car was actually making. I explained this at length when I posted the new #'s which are more of a accurate indication and they correlated much more realistically with the performance #'s/data I was getting. I would agree, EVERY Vortech supercharger will make some noise, some more than others, it's quite normal, but not that bad as others have said. The Gpower ASA blower seems to be nice and quiet. this is what i have.... -Gintani catless x-pipe -Gintani race muffler -Gintani pulley -OE V3 tune -BMC air filter i have yet to get a dyno since it has only been a couple weeks since i got the new tune, but ill take a guess and say im around 400rwhp...hope to dyno soon though...also there really isnt much more to mod at this point cams would be a waste of time and money...and that money could goto a supercharger |
