what's available? In SoCAL, highest is 91; thus 91 is what we can use. If highest is 94, use 94. But you can always refer to your owner's manual.

Anything more than 91 is a waste. Just like premium is a waste on engines designed to burn regular.

Too be honest I think the people posting 91 are fools. I always pump max, not because I feel bad-ass doing so haha.. But because it is whats best for the engine.. If you had a exotic car you wouldn't even ask this question. So treat your car like its a exotic.

Not true, higher octane gas burns hotter. I used to think the same thing and I always used Shell 98 on my Mustang Bullitt. After a year I had a horrible pinging sound and took it in. My piston heads were all pitted up from using a fuel the engine was not designed for. Would not recommend using above what the manual states

And what does it say on the title, 'h.o.n.d.a' ? And even if true, it's probably your daddy's, your wife's, or you boss's. You remind me of another tool that started every thread with 'Not my Ferrari but....'. I don't think you'll get the attention you're craving here . Ignored.

Sort of. Octane is a measure of a fuel'ms resistance to knock. It also requires a hitter flame to ignite it but it doesn't technically burn hotter.

Not doubting what you say............. I am just relaying what the mechanic told me........ said the the higher the octane the cleaner it burns which causes it to burn hotter, thus the pitting on my piston head. Not a mechanic myself, and not really that knowledgeable about the mechanics of an engine so I am left to believe what I am told by mechanics.... if that makes any sense at all. lol

Exactly. It just means that for higher compression/more precision engines, the fuel won't auto ignite before it's supposed to (knock). Flame temp depends on a lot of things, but Octane rating is not one of them. That being said, higher octane fuels tend to burn hotter in engines DESIGNED FOR higher octane fuels, usually due to higher compression ratios. Using a higher octane in an engine designed for lower octane will not have any added benefit OR cause any harm. I don't know what that mechanic was talking about.

I tried 94 when I was in Toronto and didn't really notice a huge difference. If you live around the 94 pump and don't mind the extra 5 or 6 dollars every time then I would say get 94. But don't hesitate to use 91.

Actually in my M3 supplement for my instruction manuals it says specifically that 93 octane will result in the best performance and fuel economy. So my next question would be if the current 414hp rating is with 91 octane or 93?

The HP rating is for octane 93. The user manual specifically mentions that the preferred octane rating to use is 93 but that it will run on 91. I always use Octane 94 at PetroCan. I have never had to use 91 so far. Do we have Octane 93 somewhere in Québec?
