Here in Canada the Brembos with the upgraded suspension & 19" sticky rubber is a $1700 option and the 3.73 axle is a $500 option.I can have a high 12 second car that handles OK for under $40000.It might not be an M3 in the real world but it sure is a bargain in my world.

To be fair, the M3 probably has more aggressive wheels and suspension setup. The GT could use a bit more (or less) wheel offset and lower stand.

+1 Definitely the best bang for the buck right now.

What is a track pack? lol @ your comparative...mustang is a street car and e92 is a street car. If you meant track pack as in options then that is easy to compare...get a fully optioned e92 against a fully optioned 5.0 and run them at the ring with the same tires. sounds like the 5.0 is faster in a straight line since it dynoed 400rwhp which would put it at 450 crank vs. 414hp for M3. New M3 needs to hurry up and show.

I just heard on the news that Congress signed a bill today that car's will have to be 35.5 MPG by 2016

I wonder what the stipulations will be. Most guys drive pickup trucks here in Texas that don't get half that!

Mustangs are okay -- but have you driven one? They are MILES AND MILES away from German engineering in terms of steering feel and handling. I won't even touch reliability and fit/finish

If all that is important to you is drag racing and time slips -- well probably the Mustang is a better choice for the money....but I would never buy one simply because I refuse to cut my hair in a mullet

For double the money, it better be superior in the aforementioned areas.

I think this is a great car for the money. A few aftermarket suspension mods and it will handle great I think.

Agreed; anyone who doesn't see the performance potential of this new Mustang is either in denial, or just upset that a car that 1/2 as much as ours can offer similar performance.

With that said, I doubt the Mustang willl have that perfect "balance" that the M has.

You should not deny that Ford did a nice job with the new Stang. However, they are different cars for different types of people. I personally am happy with my M3. There are plenty of mustangs on the road that can beat me in a straight line race, but I am not disappointed.

Careful--EPA mpg doesn't equate to CAFE fuel economy.
