Interlagos Blue much more purple than...

I have an Interlagos Blue 2011 on order for Euro delivery--on 4/15/10. Picked color based on small sample dealer had. I had heard it had hint of purple in some light, but that wasn't apparent from the sample. Since Le Mans blue and IB samples were so similar I went with IB since it was a unique M color.
We live in a small town about 2 hrs away from other dealerships and in spite of checking with a number of dealers none had any IB cars to check out. Finally, yesterday I saw a IB coupe in the early evening, parked in the shade and it does, indeed, appear very purple in that light. In fact, I would describe it as purple not blue in that light. None of the pictures on the color thread really conveyed this impression, & Le Mans blue & IB look almost indistinguishible on my laptop. I'm not sure that I like it.
To make matters worse--it turns out that the IB coupe is the only other e92 M3 in my town. I talked to the owner, & asked if it was indeed IB, & explained I had one on order--I had not seen his car for about a year or more & somehow thought it was red. In any event, I'm going to try to switch to Le Mans blue/bamboo beige or possibly Jerez Black/Fox Red today--but I'm afraid it is too late--as stated I take delivery on 4/15.

dont worry its still a fantastic car, and i personally think that colour is brilliant. Once you drive away from the dealership you will forget about the colour and just enjoy the 4.0 V8

Don't switch! IB is a fantastic color, and takes on a different hue in different lights. It's actually blue with tiny flecks of red in it, which is what gives the purple appearance. I'll attach a pic of it in the sun....it's really a brilliant color!

IB is about 3 different colors depending on the type of light you're in. I wouldn't trade mine for anything else.

If I had it to do over...I'd go IB. You will love it either way!

I had IB on order & changed to AW after seeing a couple pictures that made it look Purple. IB is a great color, just wasn't for me. Your the one the has to live with it, no one else.

If you have your Vin#, it may be too late. GL -

IB Is Definitely Blue

There is quite a bit of purple in it at certain angles and in certain light (even in full sun).

Agreed. IB can look very different depending on the light. In bright summer sun my car looks like grape gumballs. I did not expect this at first, but I really like the look.

If it turns out that it is too late - don't sweat it too much. IB is a great color and in my experience the general populace recognizes it as blue, not purple. Sure it has a purple hue to it but don't let that ruin your impressions of it.

Just enjoy your car and have a great time doing ED - I am very jealous!

I'm happy with my color and love how it changes according to angle and light. I still get a shiteating grin whenever I walk up to it in a parking lot.

I prefer IB to LB myself but if you can change the color combo JB on FR is one kickass combo.

Thanks, as it turns out it is too late to change.

Yes, it is too late to change to another color--confirmed today. I think it will be fine. In the late afternoon shady setting that I saw the car it definitely gave more than a strong hint of purple--almost more purple than blue. In any event, I'm sure I'll be fine with it when I see it. I like the fact that it is an exclusive M color--that's why I went with it over Le Mans sight unseen. The pictures I've seen of it on this site look great.

I dropped by a large dealership outside of Wash DC & they had 1 Le Mans Blue M3 and about 10 other non-M cars in their inventory that were also Le Mans Blue. With Interlagos Blue it will certainly be less common.

Unfortunately, in our little town of about 20 K or so (population of surrounding area is about 100K) there is only one other e92 M3 and it is IB as well. I explained to owner, another physician, that I had thought his was red (his previous M was red and he doesn't seem to drive this one much), and he knows I'm not trying to duplicate hs car. In any event his has stock 18" wheels, a carbon fiber roof, black interior, carbon leather trim, and DSC. Mine will at least differ in that I'm getting the competition package with 19" csl style wheels, moonroof, bamboo beige interior with sycamore anthracite trim, 6sp MT, etc

Thanks for all your input. I'll be excited to see it on the 15th of next month.

I own an IB E92 M3. Without comparing which color is better, IB or LMB (they're both awesome colors), I am certain that you will be very happy with your decision. While the color does have some purple hues under some lighting conditions, I would never say that the color is purple. In fact, I have yet to have someone say that the color of my car is purple. Besides, admirers are far too busy drooling over the fact that they're looking at an M3 to even comment about color. For example. While I was getting out of my car at a gas station today, a guy asked me if I minded if he took some photos of my car. Trust me, people will love your car. If nothing else, when you're tach is hitting 8,300 RPM, you won't care if your car is yellow with green polka dots! You'll love your car!

You made the right decision! IB is a unique M color for a unique car. Fear not the the color shifting!

i love IB to death... it keeps growing and growing on me every day. I know a lot of people that wished they went with IB. It's all about preference at the end of the day. If you have doubts, which is natural, then maybe a more conservative color is fitting.

Btw jerez also has a purple hue to it so beware if the purple is what's worrying you.

All in all... I'd give up my left nut for IB.

Just had mine detailed and drenched in Swisswax. OMG This is going to be difficult to see it go when I sell it next month. I will definitely order IB again on my next M

I think you're obsessing too much about color. So what if the only other M3 in the area is the same color? Just enjoy the car. I have IB too. It wasn't my first choice in color but I'm still happy with it, I think it looks great. My only concerns were with white and red which stand out a bit too much. But I'd be happy with those colors too. (I would just be a little more paranoid about drawing attention from the LEOs when driving.) Have fun during your ED. I'm sure it will be a worthwhile memory.

Cheers.
