MPG - E9X M3 vs. '11 Ford Mustang GT

Apparently the new 5.0 mustang makes 412 bhp (essentially the same as the M3) but it delivers 26 mpg. I guess this why direct injection is the future.

http://jalopnik.com/5494178/2011-for...-hp-and-26-mpg

It's not that I can't afford the extra fuel, but I'd love to not have to stop for fuel twice a week. Oh and no I don't want a bigger fuel tank, the car is heavy enough.

The difference is HOW our horsepower is made. High on the tach / burns more gas. I bet that the m3 destroys the Discustang on track. However, I'm with you; I'd like to have more MPG too.

Check out the gearing in the Mustang. That is probably the main factor in it's improved mileage. It's probably turning around 2000 rpm at 70 instead of the 3000 of the M3.

The 2011 GT Mustang is NOT direct injected.

Inside line dyno'd a 5.0 at 395 to the rear wheels - impressive.

MPG not a factor in my purchase. Anyone remember paying a gas-guzzler tax?

If your M3 is your DD then it better be a consideration. You won't be passing up too many gas stations. I think the new M3 will be ideal if it is indeed FI. You can't beat the performance that a TT offers since you can up the boost and the car get's great MPG when out of boost.

They did a great job on the new engine - kudos to Ford! They are a little late - should have had an answer to the LS-X family of Chevrolet V8s about a decade ago.

There is no such thing as a track pack on a 2011 mustang, that's because all of the goodies are now stock...
