M3 vs. 335is - which is faster?

Because someone else would have done it eventually.

mapezzul is hinting that there is some surprising performance in store for this new car. I am personally curious to see what BMW has cooked up.

Well you know the output already but it's more to do with chassis tweaks.

Yes. Output should presumably be same or very similar to the Z4 35is: 335 hp / 332 ft-lb.

I am more intrigued by what other changes BMW may have made to the car...

BMW did not stop there, there will be an “iS” version (US exclusive model). This ultra sporty version will include a transmission choice of the DCT or a Sport Automatic as well as special styling and aerodynamics. Certain M Sport items, such as a steering wheel will be included. Expect similar engine tweaks to the inline 6 N54 twin turbo as have been found in the 7RR package on the X6 and of course the recently released Z4sDrive35iS.
Its a nice bump in power if its the same from the Z4 35is. Kinda reminds me of when BMW released the 330i ZHP in the E46 days.

335is will have the N54 still while the 335i will have the new N55.

Let alone your claim of 335 "smoking" the M3, you have been smoking some good stuff too. I would worry about that more. Prepare to get "flamed".

Maybe it's just me, but this joke alluding to his homeland wears off a bit.

Even if that were true, no one is talking about the 335i here. Go find another thread to troll in please.

Yes definitely it is you south because I have no idea how it relates to his homeland? Since he used "335 smokes the M3", I just used the word "smokes" in a difference context to get the point across that no one in the right frame of mind and senses would say something ludicrous like that.

He thinks in terms of meters and kilometers I'm sure. Ultimately I believe he's just saying how effortless the 335i is around town. Most cities in Europe are limited to 50 km/h (31 mph) so who cares? People don't really speed in cities and villages anyway. They save that for the A roads.

The 335i is far superior above the M3V8! The 335i: more torque in the lower rev's, better flxibility: bye, bye M3! And, the 335i has better fuel economy to. So, it's clear who is the winner here: the 335i!

Well, maybe I was wrong. Wish I had a dollar for everyone who doesn't understand motor torque is only a component to what makes the car go and engine torque alone cannot be used to draw conclusions to acceleration. If you understood gearing and force, you wouldn't make such ignorant statements (no offense intended). The M3 is simply producing measurably more force to the ground from the driven wheels than the 335i from 2,500 rpms onward (before 2,500 it's virtually the same and this region of the rev counter is never seen in any gear with attempts at strong acceleration). And factoring in weight doesn't change the outcome. It's mathematically impossible for the 335i to be quicker. Please become educated. Thanks!

Fuel economy for both cars is negligible at wide open throttle.

Not agree. While the M3V8 tries to hit the 8000+ rpm (because below that, there is no torque and power), is the 335i already cruising at 5000 rev's, looking backwords waiting for that poor hard working M3V8 ...

Really, you didn't realize he's from Amsterdam?

It's an open door. We all know. I am the only one to say it out loud: the .35i is much faster than the M3. Lets face it. It's that simple. Here is just one video:
