Price check
Went to dealership today. CPO 08 Sedan available. Jerez on Red. 1800 miles, 6 speed. Only options are sun roof, side shades. Not negotiating much, they offered $51,500 as their 'lowest price'.
Considering some are picking up demos and leftover new 08s for 50-53k, does this price seem too high? Any suggestions? |

I believe some are picking up near fully loaded '08 M3's for low to mid $50K's out the door. I just ordered my '09 e90 m3 which is completely base with barely any options. The MSRP on BMWUSA was $56,625, and I ordered it for $56,000 out the door. Just order a new '09 M3 with few options for about $5-6K more or less.

Make all your local dealers compete for your business. That's what I did. One delaership gave me $57-58K out the door. I told them that was not going to work out, and I already had a better deal. I kept the other dealership in my hands with my phone and I told the other dealership that I am ready to buy RIGHT NOW, and if you do $56K out the door, I will come RIGHT NOW and put the deposit down. They did not hesitate since I was dead serious and to the point with them (And I also told them that the dealership that I'm at now is giving me $56,500, and in order for me to come there, they must give me $56K out the door). The dealerships play aggressive, so you MUST play aggressive too.....Only if you want a VERY GOOD deal.

It may sound absurd, but let the dealership know that you'll get the car NOW if they do $49,000 out the door. Let the dealer dwell on it even if they first say no. If you don't hear anything back from them within a week, then raise your offer to $50K. The main thing is this M3 is a basic version with no nav or almost nothing. And plus the car has 1800 miles on it. If they aren't willing to go for at least $50K drive-out, then I would just move on.
If you can, try to go for a 2009 base M3 like I did. You may have to wait a couple of months before your M3 makes it to you, but you'll be gettiing a '09 and plus it'll have barely any miles on it. You have to remember, some delaers are very stubborn and they may not give you the price you want. I would just skip past them since you will eventually get a great deal. My advice is to prepare yourself all the way before you even speak to the dealer. Preparation will yield great confidence in negotiations! |

I told the dealer that was doing 58K out the door that another dealer was doing $56K otd, and he flat out said that the other dealer was STUPID and that they weren't making any money. Remember, some dealers are just plain pathetic and they will not move on the deal for you. Just walk past them if they don't do anything positive for you.

My honest advice is to order your M3 so that you can make it perfect to match your taste. It's very rare that you find an M3 with the exact options that you would like including exterior color, interior options, etc. That's why I configured my M3 and went on the hunt to find the absolute "rock-bottom" price......And I got one hell of a price in my opinion. Good luck!

From what I have seen BMW is sending far fewer cars to the US now and dealers are not nearly as motivated to deal. I tried negotiating with Irvine BMW on the 09' E90 demo they had and they would not move at all. I ended up having to drive to Las Vegas to get the deal that I wanted.
