If I do go, I need to be back in Oakland by 6PM. Friend's recital. That means we would have to leave by noon to have enough buffer time. I'm going to love driving my Civic!

why civic ? you are not taking your car ? I was thinking to leave around 2pm ... it should take around 4h or so to get back ... or you just step on gas if you see you are running late

Because I am already in San Luis Obispo. I am not showing my car, so no point to go up and down California for nothing. I guess if you drive a M3 it will take you 4 hours, but it takes me 4hours from SLO to SF and 1.5hours from SLO to SB.
