Funny you mention that, I had my laptop with me for the epic software but they told me I couldn't download their dyno software b/c my laptop was too new with Windows 10, SMH.

Lol... what?

Most Windows 10 and 11 machines can run older software using Compatibility Mode, so that explanation doesn't really add up.

Now, I could also be wrong. If it's tied to some really old proprietary hardware that absolutely requires Windows 7 because of legacy drivers or an old communication interface, then sure, that's possible. But even then, there are ways around it. You can run a Windows 7 VM if the hardware supports USB or network passthrough, or dedicate a legacy PC while migrating the software.

Either way, it tells me their dyno software or hardware is seriously outdated.

Imagine if that laptop is literally the only machine that can operate their dyno. One day the SSD dies or the motherboard gives up, and suddenly they can't use their dyno until they figure out how to resurrect a decade-old laptop. That's not a position I'd ever want to be in. (oddly enough I'm always in this position at work (hospitals amirite))

It just sounds like they never invested the time to modernize their setup or validate that the software works on newer systems.

Don't disagree at all. Hoping a couple heads at the shop can figure this out together. Almost felt like I was an after thought when I showed up.

Fingers crossed we can figure this out. That shop is 15 minutes from my house which is super conveinent, but the bigger issue is there is no Dyno Jet within 90 minutes of Cincinnati. ALL are down or being moved, smh.

I have found most computers can run legacy programs regardless of compatibility mode.

Maybe the hardware wouldn't recognize the laptop? Still very, very odd. I would be looking for a different shop to be honest. - for the dyno, not the tuning. I understand Randy is the man.

I am not a tuner, but I really don't see why the tuner needs the dyno software unless it's a hub dyno? They are looking at engine data. That's what street tuning is, the dyno is just there so you're not doing long pulls on the street.

I've always used my own laptop for the flashing and logging while the dyno runs all by itself.

Not sure why it would need to be one computer?

It's not that it needs to be on a single computer, Randy just wants/needs access to the dyno software and his epic software. I had his stuff on my laptop but they couldn't get theirs to work with his teamviewer link and they told me I couldn't download the dyno software for some reason (that my laptop was too new.)

I'm still giggling at the can't download part.. like hardware is an important factor when downloading data.. vs installing. lmao.

Another weekend and more work.

Rebuilt the AP Essex kit as they were catching randomly driving after sitting for almost 9 months. Never did this before but its very straight forward. Pistons were filthy, so glad I did this.

Just a bit of advice....when bleeding make sure you have second person to help. I had a pressure bleeder on it, used the ABS bleed but also needed my friend pumping the brakes after.

1st event of the year will be Mid Ohio in three weeks, excited is an understatment!

Fantastic to see this progress and very excited for you!

In your up-coming event, will you be data logging oil pressure, and if so, would you share the results? Very curious since there's seems to be lots of oil pressure chat on this board but not very much hard data and I think your setup is one of the few that could illuminate this. Thanks!

I do not have a data logger but my video I take should show it as its on the dashboard.

Also have a new dyno session for Wednesday morning this week and super excited. Randy and the shop were able to figure everything out so we should have NO more suprises. Fingers crossed.

Every BMW track guy needs to have a cheapo android tablet or phone and have Bimmergeeks/Protool as an onsite troubleshooter / data logger

I have this. I didn't think protool showed oil pressure. Anyways, I always bring it to the track, but never log with it as I only have an android tablet.

But to echo omgzirra's point - you should not own an E9x car without it. It's so useful. Even on the 335d you can prime the fuel system after doing the fuel filter.

I always bring my Autel Maxiapp with me anywhere I go. It's great for service and reading codes but don't think it can data log. Will need to investigate.

Protools is an absolute power tool to have.

my 2nd choice is CanChecked, also reads all of the cars CAN data.

Super cool! Would be very curious to see the resulting data, especially oil pressure correlated with other metrics like G's, temp, RPM, etc.
