Refinishing OEM Wheels

My current wheels are black (as shown) and I’m considering taking them to a wheel shop to refinish them in either A) Brushed Silver Faces B) Bronze or C) Gunmetal.

Here’s the renderings as an example. Wanted to see what the community thinks.

I like the gunmetal (B) or bronze (C). The brushed with black (A) looks good but looks like stock wheels - like mine ;-)

My preferences is always for "factory", but not necessarily "OE", wheels, e.g. mixing period-correct factory wheels - and especially in non-factory finishes... and not all black.

I normally don't go for silver, but they definitely fit well with your color. That would be my choice.

Just a thought.......Not sure what it costs in Florida but here in the Northeast you can almost get a new set of wheels for the price of refinishing. Then you sell your current wheels. I have done this before because refinishing is expensive here. I also wanted a quick one day swap.

A reputable wheel repair shop can refinish my wheels for $1070.

Who you tryin' tuh kid? Them's no way the same wheel!
I don't know about others.... but I had to look hard at those photos....
to convince myself they were the same wheel. Definitely changes the character
of those wheels.....and IMHO they look very ggod on the light X5!
Looks like a smooth exposed finish instead of a machined surface....?
Clear coated?....or....ceramic/graphine coated?
Heaven forbid you left it exposed bare metal! Where's my five gallon can of metal polish?

I’m starting to think Bronze makes it look more “tuner” than I want.

The close up images are stock photos I used to give the guy that did it. The bottom photo is my car in my driveway.

I’m not sure but think I understood he ground and polished the surface. Am sure he clear coated them.

$1000. Had the car three days.

Tnx for the update! Figured it was along those lines. Clear coats on wheels are good....but not great....suggest you give them a nice going over with something like this....

It's a Graphine Ceramic coating that is easy enough for DIY if you like do a " hands on" ceramic job that won't scare you about messing something up. You really have to work hard to mess wheels up to the point sloppy efforts shows on them. I like the Graf/Ceram combo as it gives a harder protection....that the wheels really need for road junk and corrosive brake dust. I don't see the need for the very high end ($$$) materials that are justified for flaw free reflections in body paint. Of course, if you want perfection....have the pro do it. Just a good idea that it's done by someone.
Man!...that "before" photo would have looked great....if I hadn't already seen the "after" results. Sweet!

Gotta admit....the highlights in the photo give the edge to the lighter wheels....but....total monochromatic Black SUV shaped vehicles....just don't have the curves and angles that give C8, Lambo, etc; shapes the total "bad ass attitude" they radiate. And that's what makes your modification, on that platform, help so very much!!!
