Seeing how the ICE/PHEV 3er (G50) is being launched after the i3, I don't believe BMW will launch the G51 Touring before the i3 NA1, the latter which starts production in mid-2027 I think.

Hey ynguldyn, will there be a next gen ICE M3 touring or they may call it the G85? If so when will it come out? Thanks

That's true based on the published specifications. However, peak power isn't the whole story. The new electric motors may offer better efficiency, improved thermal management and more consistent performance under repeated acceleration. It will be interesting to see independent performance tests once the production cars are available.

Curious how much of the weight gain on the G50 is actual “body in white” weight vs elimination of more low content barebones variants. (As we know reported weight specs have some requirements around being equip with common options)

Obviously it’s bigger now so there will be some but I am interested to see as close to an apples/apples spec M340x vs M350x hits the scales

Does somebody know if the future 5 Series LCI will get the V8 from the X5 without the Plug In Hybrid?

Completely guessing here...but that's a pretty obvious no.

Could make sense as a replacement for the 8 series but would it be based on the current 5 series or something coming after 2029?

5-series is a EU-first product, X5 is a US-first product. US cares a lot less about emissions than the EU so they get the V8 in the vehicle mostly designed for them. If the 5-series sold well enough here to justify giving the US some special treats then maybe you'd see that, but large sedans are so rare in the US that BMW doesn't see it worth the investment to throw a V8 into the G60.

You see a similar phenomenon with Mercedes and Audi as well. Mercedes isn't making an E63 but is putting a V8 into the GLE and the CLE (coupes and convertibles sell much better in the US than EU). The Audi SQ7 will have a V8 while even the RS6 probably won't.

Anyone know what the reason is for ventilated seats taking sooooo long on the neue klasse releases? Ix3 in 11/27! 18 months after the car went into production?

As per what i've heard it's more of a 2028-2029 model. Not based on the 5er, may draw some design ques from vision alpina.

Still waiting to pull the trigger on ordering my next X1

I cannot seem to find any 2027 X1 ordering guides or any definitive information if the 2027 X1 that I order now will have the mid cycle refresh...

The X1 LCI will be in 12 months, so ordering now should get you the pre-LCI unless wait times for the X1 are very long which I have not heard about?

In any case, "when do I need to order" questions are kind of off-topic for this thread.

The refresh will be a 2028 model year.

I didn't catch this either, OP didn't let us know of the monthly update like usual 😉.

To answer your questions though, platform will absolutely be the same as G84 (and thus G80/G81), but production dates don't seem to be known yet. There is a 1 year gap between the EV M3 body styles, but that's bc the ZA0 M3 sedan is starting production before the NA1 (i3 Touring) is, so no clue if that timeline will be consistent with the ICE variants.

This news does make me a little more worried for the trimlines of the G51 in the US though. If there's an M3 Touring for sale as well, I'd think BMW would then offer the 330 Touring in the US rather than the M350 to try to upsell the performance-minded customers. I don't have any interest in a 4-pot, nor can I really justify the compromises of the M3 as a daily (harsher suspension, higher initial cost, higher cost of ownership, etc), so I'm really hoping they go for the B58 version instead of the B48 (though I'm not holding my breath at all).

ynguldyn On a related note to the G88, the user that first mentioned it on these forums also discussed a G89 acting as a SWB M3 to replace the G87. Any word on this endeavor so far?

Yeah, I agree that it would 99.9% be the same as the G84 but was just putting that out there. Was more curious about the timing.

Unless there is something that I really don't like about it, I was already planning to get a G84. I have a 911 4 GTS as my daily/fun can and the M3 is my "more practical" car but if there is a touring available at the same time as the G84 releases, then I would seriously consider it depending on looks.

No. But he was an actual insider with actual knowledge, which is why all his posts only survive as quotes.
