Is This DIY-Able?

Pulled in too far in my garage and dinged the front bumper. Wondering if there's something I can do to make it look less bad. Not perfect, just better, but without putty and repainting. I was thinking perhaps warming it with a heat gun to soften it up, then clamping it with two flat pieces of aluminup to 'sandwich' it back into form.

I’ve had pretty good results doing that - a heat gun and massaging back into shape. I’m not sure about clamping it though.

Are you able to get behind it and work the dent on the leading edge - out and the area that’s creased in/down - up/out?

The “tool” should be smooth and without sharp corners… like a flat wooden spoon or similar.

Finish with touchup paint/clear to (hopefully) keep the cracked paint in place

I had good luck massaging out a dent on unpainted bumper part (an insert in a painted bumper) using a heat gun.
You might damage the paint to get it hot enough to make the plastic pliable.
Second getting access from the back - heat that up and push to minimize potential paint damage.

Heat gun is your friend when it comes to shaping plastic pieces back into shape. I've used that trick on a few bumpers in the past, though never the folded edges like yours.
Three (3) bits of BTDT warning:
1). The thicker the plastic, the more heat it will require to become pliable. The more damage you will inflict on the paint.
2). The paint will, at best, come out crinkled and cracked. At worst, discolored. You will likely need to touch-up those areas.
3). The sooner after an "incident" you attempt the repair, the better. Plastic is viscoelastic and has "memory" - the longer a part is allowed to stay a certain shape, the harder it will be to re-shape it.

Don't clamp it.
Firstly, it will destroy what's left of decent paint in that area.
Secondly, complex shapes are really hard to "hold" with clamps.
Shape it the best you can, then spray some cold water to accelerate cooling and setting.

Good luck,
a

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give those ideas a try and report back. Probably won't get to it for a new weeks, though.

To be clear, I said: "I’ve had pretty good results doing that - a heat gun and massaging back into shape. I’m not sure about clamping it though."
