New M3 - Rear Bumper Scratches

Has anyone seen scratches like this before? They can only be seen from certain angles and will not come out with 2 stage correction. It kind of feels like they're pressed/dented into the plastic bumper. One professional opinion suggested that it looks like someone tried to cover them with clear coat. Could it be an attempted repair of damage from transit? Anyone have any ideas?

Can you catch the scratch with your finger nail? Did it improve at all after the two step? You might be able to try wet sanding. But if it didn't improve at all after a two step, this might be on the base coat under the clear coat. Could be a paint defect from the factory if this is a new car.

On a new car, I'd consider the issues unacceptable, particularly if you paid all that money for what looks like an individual paint.

What compounds did you use, and what tools?

For heavy imperfections, Meguiar's M105 and an aggressive, small-diameter cutting pad is usually enough. But if the area doesn't feel smooth when you run a wet finger over it, a wet sand might be the option.

Again, on a new car, I wouldn't accept this kind of damage.

Impossible to know for sure but I'd bet damage in transit or on the lot. Dealers can fix the damage and legally stick it back on the lot as a new car without disclosure to buyers. It's a lot more frequent than people realize.
