Got the alternator in. Now waiting for a new ps belt to come in because someone in Munich decided to redesign the alternator tensioner to take a torx bit instead of a hex bolt causing me to take the oil cooler lines out and oil spilling everywhere even after emptying the OFH. 🤦🏼*♂️
Everything is fine. Add fire emoji. |

Had the same problem with reading max and +1qt.
1. purchased aftermarket sensor no good. 2. purchased BMW version; good. |

Oh I didn’t by a full tensioner assembly. Just the damper and pulley separately and reused my tensioner arm. So when I replaced the pulley I just reused the bolt and blue loctite. I forgot that detail. They charge an arm and a gonad for that full assembly.

No change. Problem still exists. Even added a 500ml of oil, pretty sure it's overfilled now. Still getting low oil reading.
Going under tomorrow to check wiring harness again. Ordered yet another sensor. No codes at all, ac compressor may be on the way out. Car sometimes stalls sitting still with ac and sometimes the ac doesn't blast at all. Going back to driving the g82 for now. Last edited by sxychubles; 07-11-2026 at 07:22 PM.. |

Guys, it's working. Spent all day trouble shooting. All wiring were good, no short anywhere...however after probing the ground I got a code and cel. Sensor fault. Went back down, disconnected and saw that the terminals are way to wide when compared to a new terminal. Bent them back. Drove for 20min, got a reading. Lost my mind. Restarted car, got another reading, forced reset and after ten minutes got another reading. What a journey it's been. Was thinking of replacing the sensor plug and terminals but honestly might just never touch it again.
In the process of all this, found out my ac compressor is toast. 🤦🏼*♂️ It doesn't end. Last edited by sxychubles; 07-12-2026 at 04:50 PM.. |

Glad you got it all sorted, although the alternator might have not resolved it, at least you got a new alternator lol.

True, and a bad alternator could leave you stranded. When mine died, I got lucky as the battery lasted just long enough to get me out of a boxed in 2 lane construction zone.

Thanks for reporting back. Glad you got it fixed!
I need to do a write-up on using INPA for checking the oil level sensor. Makes it very easy to T/S.
