Interior Detailing / Coatings

Complete noob to interior detailing - anything that people have had success with in terms of treating the leather? My shop is telling me they can essentially do a "ceramic" coating of the leather to help protect it.

Curious if anyone has done something similar and what thoughts they had.

I had my car PPFed and ceramic coated in April - as part of their ceramic service they effectively throw in wheel and interior ceramic for free. Since then, the few times I've had drinks "spill" (mostly condensation drips or a few drops while driving) the liquid seems to bead much more than on other vehicles I've had that weren't treated.

For example, each morning before work I get a latte or mocha (I like sweet drinks and I'm not sorry/ashamed!) about once a week I'll brake or maneuver just hard enough for a few drops to spill out. Rather than coating the sides of the cupholder, most of it just beads down into the bottom. When I go to clean it up, I can just wipe it off with a damp cloth, rather than needing to soak it with cleaner before wiping/rubbing several times.

I've been careful not to let anything spill on my seats or floors, so I can't speak to how those hold up but... I have noticed that when I spray cleaner (all surfaces) or 303 (sensatec leather surfaces), it doesn't immediately saturate, rather, it sits on top... not quite beading, but seemingly requires fewer sprays.

Did you apply it yourself? Wondering how easy it is to DIY

Great product, I’ve used it many times.
Extremely easy to use. Wipe on, wipe off.
Comes with clear instructions and the
applicator pad. All you need is a clean
microfiber to wipe off the product.

Does it keep the matte finish on the steering wheel? Or will your hand oils eventually still make it a bit shiny?

If your steering wheel is already in a matte finish, applying the coating will retain the matte finish. If it's currently shiny, you will need to clean it first to remove all the existing oils and grime to get that matte finish.

As for will it eventually make it shiny. I think Gyeon claims the coating will last around 1 year. For a steering wheel where you are touching and rubbing on it constantly, it will most likely wear quicker. So to answer your question: Yes, the coating will eventually wear off and the leather will eventually get shiny. But routine cleaning should prevent that for the most part.

I'd say go for it and try it out yourself. The kit comes with everything and the installation is fairly straightforward. It's pretty affordable for a little bit of protection.

If applied to a new car seats and wheel, or
anything else leather, it will go on wet,
and glossy, but will wipe off to the original
Matt finish. You will never know it was
applied, and will keep all leather from
getting shiny. Can be applied every 6 months.
If leather is not new, a proper cleaning is
advised before coating.
