Front & rear tire service

I just got a message in my BMW app saying that I should book a service appointment for my front and rear tires. It doesn't specify what the issue is exactly. I tried googling this last night and I came across a reddit post saying its just a money grab and be prepared to take out your credit card. Does anyone else know anything about these front and rear tire services and whether I need to do it or not. Nothing has popped up in my iDrive so far.

Maybe they will try to sell you new brakes as well while selling tires that may still have another year left.

The notification has to be time-or mileage-dependent. Have you measured the tread remaining?

Go check your tires. Put your finger in the tread and run along the circumference until you find a wear bar. Check the inner lip as well for cording.

Check the tire pressures while you're at it, and check your date codes. I replace my tires at ~6yrs preventatively.

If they're good, they're good.

Everything seems to be ok so far. I have winter tires as well which I switch out every season so its not like I'm running the summer tires all year long. Atleast six months I'm running winters and then swap out in April for the summers until about end October early November

I've never received any such messages from BMW about tires.
Tires are not part of pre-programmed maintenance since their rate of wear is very customer-use dependent.

What app, exactly, notified you of this situation?
BMW Canada?
Something from the dealer?

Nor will it, ever.
BMW cars can not and do not measure the rate of tire wear.
Some dealer do that by taking pictures of tires as you pull into service pay, and guesstimating their rate of wear and need for replacement.

Since you are swapping and inspecting tires 2x/year, I would trust your own eyes way more than business solicitation from your local dealer or BMW CA!

Let us know what BMW says and what you find a tire gauge says. Changing also depends on whether you are comfortable going to the wear bars or drive in heavy rain and are concerned about insufficient tread depth. I have also found that after about 5 years, the rubber compound seems to harden and even with maybe close to half tread depth the ride is not as good as new rubber with more tread depth. On a car with a more compliant suspension the ride difference probably would not be as noticeable.

That BMW app message is just a timed reminder, not a fault. It pops up every 2years or at set mileage for tire inspection/rotation. If iDrive shows no warnings and your tread is even, you can skip it. Just check tire pressure and tread depth yourself…no need to pay dealer prices unless you actually need tires

buy an air pump and tire gage and keep them in the trunk. check the tread depth for each tire at several locations at least once per year

Got a similar message from Bm that my front brake discs were lipped bad, so to save on stealership prices I sourced them myself and had an indie fit them.
