M3 making a squeaking noise when slowing down

Hey all, I’m having this issue with my m3 that started out of no where. Whenever I am coasting to a stop, in gear, the car will make this rapid squeaking noise, almost as if some metal is rubbing on some rubber. The thing is, it only happens when slowing down, not when accelerating, it also only happens when it’s in gear. It doesn’t happen when the clutch is pressed in and/or in neutral with the clutch out and coasting. It seems to only happen when there is some sort of engine braking involved.

Any ideas? Thank you!

Motor mounts, heat shields?

Need to get vehicle on a lift and properly diag. Inspect and report back.

I ended up finding a thread on here talking about the same exact issue I’m having, same sound and same parameters.

It ended up being his drive shaft, replaced driveshaft and it was fixed. What do yall think that could be the issue?

I’m in same situation. Going to drive it for a couple weeks and hope it’s a pebble in heat shield that comes loose. If noise persists, will take it to shop to check driveshaft.
