Injector cleaning/bench testing services

Have any of you sent your injectors in to be tested/cleaned?

I’m not having any issues, just doing this as a little “PM”, and just to make sure I’m getting all of the flow these things provide.

I’m in NorCal, so local shops would be a bonus.

AFAIK s65 injectors are still relatively inexpensive. I’d just buy new ones.

Agreed. I personally know a guy that had injectors cleaned and serviced that subsequently ended up bore scoring cyl 1 when they failed open. Now he gets to build a new short block.

it'll cost just as much to buy new injectors, on top of that if you did that with your current injectors you'll need to replace the o-rings also.

I hear what you’re saying. I’m starting do do mostly track days now, and wanted to make sure everything was in spec. I’m not having any issues which is why I didn’t want to replace them.
BTW, FCP has the Bosch set for $460, whereas the BMW part is $300 each.

I did scoure the section on injector failures, but came away with nothing more than if the injector sticks open, you can flood/hydrolock/ruin the block.

Are injectors a wear item that should be swapped at a mileage interval? I saw something posted that 80-100k is the “when you should” replace them, but there is no empirical data supporting this (at least from what I found).

The answer is “it’s complicated.” The concern is debris wedging one open. Whether that’s a function of dirt buildup over time, or the non-serviceable fuel filter starting to degrade at some point and sending FOD down that fuel line is still open for debate as far as I know. It’s why people sell in line fuel filters (though I think just get a new pump at that point, and have the bonus of a new filter too).

I’ll say this — my motor was at 145k when I bought it, and I put in new injectors just to feel better about it.

we spend $400 alone just doing sparks and oil, might as well just do the fuel injectors and not worry about it for a while.

mechanical parts wear and tear no matter how you look at it miles, hours, etc..
