Help identifying aftermarket ignition coils on m3

Hey guys I just got an e92 m3. I find it will go into limp mode after warming up. Was able to pull codes with a generic scanner it and it gave me P0357, so cylinder 7 misfire and or electrical problem.

I pop off the covers and notice that on each bank there are two ignition coils that have a rubber bmw logo that is bigger than the rest. These arent OEM right? (See Attached image).

For now I've just opted to buy 3 OEM used ones on ebay for $50 a piece because here in Canada they want 450 each. Not paying that.

Currently just swapped coils 6 and 7 to ensure its the coilpack itself causing this.

Those look OEM, wouldn't expect non to have the BMW inscription. Did you check the spark plugs? These motors prefer fresh plugs. Another thing to check is the ground wire going to the rear lug on each of the valve covers (that silver lug to the far left of your pic that the plastic cover clips too, that's the forward one) Also there is a lower braided ground wire that goes from the chassis to right near the driver's side motor mount.

Hi Powerbait, thanks for your message.

I checked online and yea it does look like its OEM, I was wrong.

I checked the ground wires and theyre good.

I also took the car for a spin today around the block and got up to temp, but couldn't recreate the problem.

Consulted chatGPT and it says its technically not a misfire, just an anomaly the DME noticed in the voltage (resistance changed as coils heated up).

When I got limp mode it was from idling the car for >20 minutes both times with the hood closed.

Either way, I am going to change the sparkplugs as I have no idea when they were last serviced, and I have spare OEM used coils on the way in case I need them in future.

Will report back if it happens again!
