Smile Water in footwell

Hello All,

Looking for some advice or strategy to best tackle this. Was hoovering mrs car ( 2012 F20 118i) a couple days ago noticed the carpet/mat felt slightly wet in the drivers footwell. Then in the drivers side rear footwell there was a massive puddle. Front and rear passenger side footwells were completely dry.

Wet and dry vac sorted it out but a couple days later the puddle appeared in the rear side but front drivers was dry. Vacuumed it all again and I oept checking it throughout the day. By the evening the puddle had re appeared (it had rained but not heavily?). Funny thing is the puddle always starts in the corner near the centre hump covering the prop shaft tunnel. Which baffling me and it that seems to point away from vapour barrier to me.

Theres no sunroof and I havent had the chance to check the vapour barrier, coolant level is fine just wondering peoples thoughts if it sounds like something else or what else to check if vapour barriers fine or if resealing it doesnt help. Thanks in advance

Hows the rear center of the headliner? Any water spotting or wetness? There's an antenna (shark fin) that could possibly leak.

Absolute bone dry, its literally the flat part of the carpet that gets wet, not even the carpet that covers the slop/sill between the footwell and the door

A classic case of water finding the path of least resistance along the prop shaft tunnel. I'd start by carefully checking the door seals and the small drainage channels under the car they can get blocked and redirect water exactly where you’re seeing it.

Thanks for your response mate, forgive my lack of knowledge when you say check door seals/small drainage channels is this different from the vapour barrier? And is this on the door or the car itself interior/exterior?

Water will always enter the doors due to rainfall or washing car the barrier is more a vapor barrier to protect back of door cards. Water should drain from door drains before even reaching the barrier seal level which is quite a few centimetres from the bottom of door, door drains can become blocked preventing drainage and you may hear some water sloshing around in doors. Door drains should be at the bottom corners of each doors, I have check mine are clear with a long plastic cable tie.

From what has been said you would expect the dampness to be near the door if a defective barrier before migrating to the centre. Seems strange only centre damp that is why I mentioned my problem with defective windscreen seal.
