Hi all - haven't posted this build thread here since i've been busy but like many of you i'm building an e92 m3 for track use, not W2W racing but simple track fun. sold my Gt4RS and a GT3 this year and bought an E92 and a GT4.
Anyway, this build is almost done, suspension, exhaust, interior and some aero are on. Engine has the full Do88 kit, Epic tune, intake, and an oil separator , fuel filter, plus new engine covers, has 107k miles. I have not done the TAs, plugs or coil packs yet. Here's what is happening. Drove it on track for a shake down a few weeks back and when i hit around 7500 rpm, give or take, it went into limp mode, no power and had to coast to a stop, cycle the power and then it ran fine again. I can almost always reproduce this issue on the track or street. Before i go and replace every part of the ignition and fuel system, starting with plugs, TAs and coils i wanted to run it by you guys. So far i've stumped everyone with this issue as there are no stored codes helping to guide me. I have not yet tuned it back to stock as Epic Randy suggested but that's my next step just to be sure it's not the tune or to see if throws a code he removed in the tune. Anyone ever seen something like this? |

You should change plugs regardless. The stock tune idea is probably the best place to start with the least amount of effort. |

This car doesn’t use MAF based fuel tuning. But it does use the spark plugs for ionic knock detection. The wrong plugs or bad/worn plugs can cause misfires bad enough to cut power.

ok, so went back to a stock tune provided by Epic, no issues, no CEL and no cutting of power or limping. Ran the car to redline in 1st through 4th. So odd.
I sent this info back to Randy and will wait. Right now i'll just drive it without the tune. I was all set to replace plugs, TAs, coil packs and more but right now that's on hold. |
