Electronic Service History (ESH) Database

Hey folks - I am brand new here - I am considering the purchase of an old Series 1.

I note in the service book it seems to have been serviced at a BMW "Cost Center", specifically W13. The google shaped cloud suggests this is an internal name for THORNE in England, that matches up to a stamp on the cover.

The current owner is quite absent from the technicalities of her car, I wonder what I can do with the VIN. Will anyone be able to give me a bit more information about what might have been done. Specially I want to know whether the services done at "W13" (between late 2017 and late 2021) relate to the notoriously annoying timing chain on this N47 engine. Was there ever a "soft" recall on the tensioner, I see some folks mentioning that online.

Can a dealer access the Electronic Service History (ESH) database? Will they do it for a prospective new owner?

When I bought my CPO M2 from a BMW dealer, they printed out the service history for me and redacted the previous owner's name/address/phone.

Buying from a non-dealer, probably depends on the dealer but I bet most would not be forthcoming with the service history.

Just had two very pleasant calls to BMW's main support number in the UK, they have absolutely no idea what "Cost Center" is and no idea what "W13" means, AIR (the internal db they can view) shows no official services at these dates. A recall to replace the "fuel filter heater" apparently.

Curious. Must be a back-yard mechanic with a stamp then, my "Cost Center" services?
