Winter Upgrades
I thought I would start a new thread considering this sub has been a little bit dead with track season on standby.
Track season is quickly approaching and winter upgrades are coming to a close. What has everyone been working on over the winter? I have done: Fixed an oil filter housing leak Flushed power steering Flushed coolant MRT Engineering front tension arms Bimmerworld front end links Hotchkis front sway bar GT4 V1 front splitter To do: Get 2 v bands welded to the exhaust Install rear adjustable end links Install APR GT250 Wing Install GT4 Canards Get tires and have them mounted (Maybe) install seat I picked up Saturday Install Bimmerworld toe arms Install SLG eccentric lockout Alignment I am worried I won't get done in time! First (planned) track day is at the end of March. |

Interested to see how you like the APR Wing. Heard you need lots of front end downforce to balance this Wing out, not sure if the V1 is enough without canards? I got so much done this winter but have a lot to go myself: Finished: Weight reduction Single Hump swap Coding Suspension rebuild including stiffer springs Pressure washed engine bay New Momo wheel, 50MM spacer, and OMP Quick release To Do: Finish up assembly of new S65 Break in of said S65 Dyno Tune session for S65 Install half cage after powdercoat Install 6pt harness drivers side Corner balance and set ride height Finish quick disconnect bumper certs Hoping to be starting break in early March and maybe a track weekend end of April! I picked the car up Saturday from a friend's house after having 2 V bands welded onto the exhaust for the axle back. No more ball and socket joint. The main purpose of this is the exhaust I bought had slip joints there vs the standard ball and socket. The V bands fixed all the problems.
I finished installing the APR wing last night, but would still like to get it PPF'd along with the 2 little feet that the uprights sit in as they are carbon also. I ended up getting a set of wheels with Continental ECF's on them so I am going to take both sets of wheels and have the tires swapped. This will keep the Apex's as track wheels. Still need to put the undertrays back on the car, do the toe arms and eccentric lockouts, rear end links, canards, and get it aligned. Fingers crossed all this will be done by the end of March for the first track day! |

I forgot where I said I would update with the feel of the car after upgrades.
I got the wing PPF'd, all the tires swapped over, the toe arms and eccentric lockouts installed, canards installed, and the an alignment. I also managed to squeeze into a track day on the 8th at the very last minute just to blow the flow control sleeve and drain plug out of the radiator on lap 2 1/4. I hope the engine didn't overheat because I did get the engine hot warning. I got a new control sleeve, drain plug, and overflow cap for good measure. It just sucks because the car was just beginning to feel good before that happened. I did get a ride in a GT4 Clubsport though! Talk about insane grip absolutely everywhere and the BRAKES OMG. This past weekend I threw a new one in with a brass drain plug. Everything seemed okay on my test drive. I have an oil change kit on the way that should come in today. I'll change the oil and hopefully not see any coolant - then track day on the 22nd! |
