ECU life span

So came across this video and found it bit alarming but then did some research and found some that say this is just "doom and gloom" rhetoric. Obviously all mechanical and electrical components can and may fail at some point, how legit is this claim that BMW designed these ECU's with a life span in mind?

As these cars age, I'm sure finding a flashed ECU is already getting challenging, but will it become impossible or astronomically expensive in next few years? I'm the original owner on my '08 and still running strong but I know that day might come, hopefully not sooner than later.

Thoughts?

Stop being paranoid just enjoy your car if it has no issues with ecu, this is just a toy to enjoy, if it breaks fix or replace

Stupid clickbait title and alarmist crap that’s not worth wasting time to watch it. Worst-case scenario, if all stock ecus do somehow mysteriously fail, is a switch to a plug-n-play standalone ecu. Ignore this crap and go out for a nice drive repeatedly hitting the 8400 rpm redline as you continuously go through the gears with a giant smile on your face!

I agree with the posts that state widespread ecu failures are not a real concern. TBH, I’ve never even thought about something like this happening. My ‘94 NA1 NSX ecu is 14 years older than the oldest MY of the e92 M3 and a failure hasn’t been a problem. Please continue to drive your e9x M3 like it’s been stolen!!

Right on! Didn't think it was a concern until I saw the video but that did sound a bit far-fetched.
