In auto mode, does outside air not always go through cabin air filter?

This is what I see on the screen and it seems to say that? It am I not reading it right?

Auto is supposed to move between outside and recirculation. It will move through the air filter regardless.

It's uses a particle sensor to switch from fresh air to recirculate if the sensor senses C02/diesel/pollen/dust/ etc. It does not use a timer like the old cars. It always goes through the cabin filter.

It prefers fresh air (as this maintains the highest air quality in the cabin) but if it senses nasty stuff it switches over to recirculate, then back to fresh air when it thinks it's fresh again.

If you pop hood, you should see the sensor for it just under the hood up against the very top of the hood on the passenger side. It's a little cylinder with holes in it.

Does this sensor need cleaning from time to time? Can you possibly clean it with a MAF cleaner or electronics cleaner (pure isopropyl alcohol)?
