Disabling Start/Stop

Hi, new BMW G15 M850i owner here! I see that 8sieries forum does not have coding/DIY sections? Are there any advice how to get started with coding? Would be grateful for getting started info/tools!
Would like to use PC and Ethernet OBD cable. First thing would be to disable annoying start/stop.

You probably can not code it out. But there are a few options. If you drive in S mode for the transmission or in M mode, the auto start stop will be disabled. If you drive in Sport+ mode it will also be disabled. You can code the car to start in Sport+.

The other option is to buy https://motorcom.io/ it is from the same team that makes BimmerCode and BimmerLink. That will disable the auto/start stop.

This works on newer Z4's and probably holds for most other BMW's as well.

Yes, sport mode seems to disable start/stop too. Just need to learn coding these cars and replace comfort mode with other default mode.

I saw that XHP disables start/stop too, anyone tried XHP on these cars? How is it?

You can use coding tools like Protool or esys to code out start stop. I have XHP stage 4 tune right now and it's amazing. Extremely firm shifts in sport + and alittle more jerky than stock tune, but that's expected for a full blown race tune. Stage 1 or 2 should be more than enough for a daily driver.

Not on the latest G series you can’t. They really locked down what we can achieve. The DME is locked. Maybe idrive 8 or prior but it’s over with idrive 8.5.

I tried. For the curious here is how you used to code it out:

I have a z4 on the way. Thinking of getting the OBDLink cx and using bimmercode to turn off my the auto stop since it doesn’t require coding. Will this void the warranty? And after I disconnect the device the changes are stored in the cars computer?

Thank you!

You can turn it off by hitting the button, or set it to stay off in Sport + mode. But "coding" is required to have the car automatically start in Sport + mode, to make it feel like the feature is truly disabled (such that you never need to hit the button again).

After coding, yes, the change is held.

For warranty, it's unlikely it'll violate anything. Certainly if your wheel falls off they can't blame the coding. If your ECU were to fail for some reason then sure, they might deny that as a warranty fix. Like anything it's a gamble. Most would say a small or negligible gamble, me included, but there's always some amount of risk.

I've had both my X5 and X7 in for minor warranty service, and no one has said a thing about them being coded to start in Sport Individual.
