Trunk Mounted Oil Cooler - Has anyone done this?

With the rebuild continuing and the amount of bearing material I found in my pan I am considering on getting a new oil cooler setup. Currently have a D088 but may want to go bigger and relocate to the trunk. This will help with setup of my accusump, provide area for a larger oil cooler, and add a little more weight to the rear for balance.

Has anyone done this? I am trying to find options on a good race cooler that I can run AN10 lines from the engine to the trunk. Rogue Engineering makes adapters for the engine that have the AN fittings arlready.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a decent universal cooler?

How would a trunk mounted cooler receive sufficient airflow for cooling purposes?

This is run in the drift world all the time. Making sure you have sufficient fans and a provision cut out of the trunk to help air flow and you are good.

Actually, I should go look at some drift forums, I think that's a good place to research!

first, star with your undertray and checking the condition of your oil cooler. if those are in good shape, maybe consider adding an in-line cooler. i'd probably keep it near the front of the car, and consider placing it in place of the front upper intake kidney ducts that the intake uses. you could mount it to the radiator support and it would get proper airflow.

you'll probably want to set up naca ducts with tubing on the rear quarter windows and/or place them there w/ fans.

it's probably not worth the hassle.

im starting to think you're over thinking this cooling issue / oiling issue now LOL.

alternatively you can copy the 1M set up, i think they have 2 oil coolers, one on each side, basically an aux oil cooler.

Whaaaaat, you think I maybe over compensating for something?!?!? No, you are absolutely right, lol!

It was also a fun idea to help with weight balance, just like a "while you're in there" kinda thing.

hahaah yeah i get you. its fun to theory craft possible solutions.

with the time and money put into a "rear" cooler set up after fab and all that, you're probably in dry sump range.
