For me driving a manual transmission sports car is just sublime…I’m sad future M car owners won’t be able to experience just how awesome it is.
The engagement, turn in, lighter weight, drivetrain simplicity, heel and toe (if you turn off rev match), nailing perfect shifts on the racetrack or drag strip…It’s the best.

I’ll be sad to see the manual go away, but also glad that i’ll have one of the very last manual M’s produced. That said, i’ll be way happier if the manual continues. |

It’s mindblowing that so many people on here are still debating if there will be a manual offered in the next generation of M2/3/4. BMW confirmed several months ago that the next generation wouldn’t be offered with 3 pedals.
The last G8X base to roll off that production line, is going to be worth a fortune. It’s the end of an era, and what a spectacular era it was. |

I would argue there's a differences between being able to drive a manual and drive a manual well. Rev-matching and heel-toe take commitment.

What BMW needs, as someone of you already wrote, is to erase each improper use of the M badge in the lineup. M performance/lite models shouldn't be offered anymore in my opinion.
M just for the real M cars please.

However, the M light brand dilution should stop. Make it a 340i not an M340i. Same with the Z4 and the iX etc. This proves they want the manual to die. Which is a tragedy Last edited by Bimmerfun82; 11-04-2025 at 06:53 AM.. |

I’m a fan of manual transmissions and have had several. There are pros and cons
Pros- I think they help with certain maintenance needs e.g. less wear on the brakes if you drive them right. And fuel for that much. Cons- remote start, which I love. I saw someone who had a stick with remote start and it went thru a store window. And I sold my last manual (Corvette). Why? Scenario… you’re on vacation with your othrr half and you break your clutch leg while skiing. Uh oh who’s driving home. I can drive some manuals without the pedal but most can’t and it ain’t always easy. |

Honestly sounds like an excuse from the manufacturer to streamline the process and save $$ in manufacturing, design, etc. |

I don't have a problem with the current M designations:
Non-M: regular cars, not particularly performance-oriented. M+number: in between regular and "full" M – more performance-oriented, but without the extreme M tuning, etc. Probably the best choice for most "enthusiasts" and daily use. "Full" M: the full boat, comfort, etc. be damned. For those that value performance over everything else and/or need to preen on social media. Outside of ego and gatekeeping, I really don't see what the problem is. If you're driving a "full" M, anyone who cares knows. But the truth of the matter is that 98% of the populace couldn't possibly care less. |

I can understand that. I like the US spec M340i because I comes with a factory LSD and proper sport brakes out of the box unlike the US spec 330.

M+number: in between regular and "full" M – more performance-oriented, but without the extreme M tuning, etc. Probably the best choice for most "enthusiasts" and daily use. The in between has always existed and offered more performance over the standard but not as much as the full blown. And they’ve done so for 40yrs. The goal of adding M to everything that’s not an M division developed car is to muddy the waters. I don’t think BMW even breaks out sales numbers by full blown M anymore, they’re all lumped together to boost their numbers. M now stands for Muddy reporting as far as I’m concerned. |

Then they should probably stop making M SUV’s while they are at it 😊

Competing for sales not soul. And keep ruining their drivers cars. Do they even have one now? Maybe the 2er but it's bloated now too.
They're not going to make small chuckable things with a manual, a reasonable powerband to enjoy, and fun enough without going to prison on the street. I'll always be a big BMW fan but I wouldn't even consider buying a new one.
