Paragon Performance BBK from EAS

FWIW, a birdie tells me Paragon is wrapping up development/testing of a 25mm version of their caliper. I also sell the kits and would offer a forum discount and/or package deal with some track pads.

Yes you are correct, the brake sensor wire is not compatible with the Paragon BBK. This was one of the questions I had that Godfrey confirmed to me, plenty of car on the streets without that functionality. Guessing you, like all of us on the forum are enthusiasts, so we keep an eye on this sort of thing anyway, we don’t need some ‘idot light/sensor’ to tell us hehe.

Yeah that is true. I don’t ever really pay attention to that anyway. I do plenty of maintenance on all my vehicles including my M car so I am aware of when the pads start getting thin. But I like all my functions including EDC. Maybe I’m just OCD lol😆

The pad sensor is just a wire that gets broken when the pad gets low enough that the sensor hits the rotor. It does not have any effect on any of the car's systems. I cut the wires at the DSC pump and soldered them and removed the connectors all together and everything works just fine.

I need to figure out how to become a vendor here so I can post a presale link in the near future. Help? Trying to work with them on an upgrade kit for those who have a current Paragon 18mm kit, but we'll see, they may be too busy to make that happen right away.

Upgrade kit would be awesome to get more meaty pads in the current setup.

I have a couple other things too, GLOC pads, etc. Been [hard] testing bits on track all summer that are more cost effective than the typical recommendations. Just getting all my ducks in order to make sure I have solid recommendations and real-world tested parts that won't break the bank.

Sounds awesome. FWIW, I've been really happy with the Winmax R5 pads with the Paragon setup.

I absolutely would not want a 30yo caliper design with increased 25 mm thick pads if the caliper stiffness has not been maintained or, preferably, increased to accommodate a 25 mm thick pad. I’d also want to maintain a 36 mm thick rotor, not a thinner rotor to reduce the opened caliper width. Maintaining or increasing stiffness will come at the cost of additional mass. I have the AP Racing CP5555 caliper with 18 mm thick pads on my e46 M3 track car and I would not want that caliper widened without changes to its stiffness.

The caliper has been stiffened, and it maintains 36mm thick rotors. Same rings as the 18mm kit but that's the only thing that is common between the 18mm and 25mm kits.

Do you have a picture or did they follow the approach AP Racing used on the Pro5000+ calipers? First picture is the caliper with 36 mm rotor thickness and 25 mm pad thickness and the second picture is the caliper with 36 mm rotor thickness and 25 mm pad thickness - it has a “H cross” brace and a thicker wall on both sides of the opened area of the caliper.

I do have pictures but don't want to share until after they announce it. It has a cross brace like the bottom one, and has a lot more meat in the caliper body itself. I don't have scientific numbers or anything but it's obvious they did more than just make their standard caliper wider, they put some thought into it.

Kind of looks halfway between the old AP design, and the newer designs. I think they look great and are definitely a step towards creating their own products vs rebranding old AP stuff.

Hmm…a cross between the two. I sure hope it looks better structurally than what I have pictured in my mind. In this outdated caliper design, it definitely needs a thicker pad wall - bending stiffness is proportional to wall thickness cubed (section modulus is proportional to thickness squared). I sure hope it wasn’t “tested” using the FEM! I’ll refrain from making anymore comments on the structural design of the Paragon 25 mm-thk pad caliper until I see it.
