It does not ride well and has dead steering. Not even remotely close to range rover or x7 ride or luxury. Want x7 type luxury that sits up higher. This G74 might fit that niche.

Ah, you're just being salty cause you dislike the concept. A reasonable person would look at other 'rugged' editions in the class such as the GX550 Overtrail which has a factory 1" lift and ~1" larger diameter tires to get an idea of what the added ground clearance over an X7 could be. That would be high enough for 99.9% of buyers most of which will never overland anyway.

Sounds a lot like my report from last night So there is no X8 name being thrown around now. In fact, the car is not even 100% approved. It's close, but not approved, nor has an official name, other than Rugged Project.

Still a long way to go, approval is in the process by the end of the year, but no prototypes for the road were built yet. On top of it, the car is proposed as an EV and PHEV, not REx. So the EV will have the Neue Klasse motors, so it can do four independent ones controlled by the cool Heart of Joy. It remains to be seen if that it will be the better version compared to a traditional PHEV.

If it's going against a G-class, it will be priced higher than the XM. A base G550 is $150k without options. A base G63 is $190k.

Excited and hope it gets approved. I would be good with ev or phev (i own one now) An extended range ev would be ideal however. Please keep us posted on any scoop or updates as the year progresses

Nothing wrong with that. The CLAR platform is really good. That was the idea behind it: to be able to do custom wheelbases on it, like the XM, Z4, Skytop, Speedotp, and many other examples.

It's the same play.

Initially the car was supposed to be on iX3 platform.

So everybody knows a true proper off-roader is a body-on-frame setup - not unibody construction. Would BMW even know how to build a BOF vehicle?

I mean Subaru builds unibody quasi-off-roaders, but that’s their thing, and it works for them. That’s after a long legacy / history of intentionally focusing on that type of vehicle though.

Not sure if BMW would actually build anything more than a glorified, lifted maxi-sized X5/X7.

They kind of did already but wasn’t offered in the states. They did it with the 2 series called active and gran tourer. F45/46 chassis code. Neat looking vehicles. Would’ve been cool if they brought them to the USA.

I like my Bronco but I don't see any correlation between G-Wagon buyers and Bronco buyers.
