I wouldn't worry about how you splice things, but CAN is kind of sensitive to reflections so it's more what/where you're adding wire to the bus.

Soldering in automotive applications is generally not preferred since it'll make the copper more brittle at the transitions, which can then lead to failures due to vibrations. High quality butt splice or other crimp connections are generally prefered.
