VF SC and Full e85 - 620whp and 400lbs ft trq!

The forums don't get much traction these days but I've been on here and back in my E36M days, BimmerForums so I wanted to share some info so it helps others trying to go down this road. Most of this stuff lives on FB pages and IG chats etc etc so the more places it can live and be seen the better. I'm all about keeping this platform moving forward.

I am on my 3rd e90 M3 6speed. Its hard to get away from the driver engagement these cars bring but I have always felt like the power was lacking. I got exposed to the C6 Z06 and C6 Zr1 platforms so its unfair but at the same time I knew there were SC kits available to help mitigate the short comings.

I have 2 boys 4 and 5, so I needed a car with a back seat that can scratch the fun car itch and mandatory manual transmission so back to the 3rd e90 m3.

I went full tilt and bought a used VF sc kit, then went through old posts and tons of FB posts to find all the info on what it takes to run full e85 so I can safely unlock the higher end of power on this car and keep it "safe"

2011 E90 M3 Comp 6 speed
148k miles
RB done at 80k by the dealer with BMW bearings
I changed the bearings again with ACL extra clearance and ARP bolts at 147k
TAs done and all other pertinent maintenance.

Engine is all stock otherwise

Parts list:

VF Intercooled SC kit with the Vortech V3 blower
3.4" pulley (smaller pulley to get to 9-10psi)
Secondary intake mod (good for 1psi, vent BOV, put filter on VF intake elbow for more air)
ID1050xds injectors
Fuel-It 525 Hellcat Secondary Fuel pump w/ hobbs switch
AA Catless X Pipe
Megan Supremo Axleback

RK Tunes full e85 tune (haven't run it on 91 but I have that tune file as well)
remote tune with data logging until things were dialed in to Jordan's likings.

The Results

Multiple 600+whp pulls back to back (see dyno chart)

The first couple of pulls were shy of the 8500rpm redline so I told the dyno operator to stay in it to redline which shows the power right to the top!

Outside temps were 50 degrees F but the IATs were 95 degrees F getting to 100 degrees F at the end of the pulls. The dyno was in a back room and they only had a Swamp Cooler fan on it. I just drove 30 mins to the dyno shop and they hooked it straight up so no real cool down but at least its as real life performance as its going to get. Hotter summer months will pull timing with more heat but I'll look into a methanol injection system for cooler IATs.

Super happy with the results! The car drives perfectly on the street. The powerband is identical to stock, super linear, once 4500rpm comes around it just pours on the power and it pulls hard to redline. This makes it super manageable so there isn't any crazy wheel spin when the power hits.

I know a ton of people will say the engine is on borrowed time but like i said the forum doesn't see all the other SC guys running e85 and these power levels and even higher for years. I just wanted to shed some light on it so others can benefit if they choose to follow this path.

This helps in my decision to go with E85 come spring for my G1 kit.

Can you elaborate more on the secondary intake? First I’ve heard of it, and wonder if it can be utilized on the G1.

The secondary intake mod is when you vent the BOV to atmosphere and instead of capping off the hole/inlet to the intake elbow from the BOV you put a filter on it and now you are introducing more air into the compressor. Jordan from RK tunes did this on a video on his YouTube channel and the car picked up 1psi and the result was 20+whp. Here’s a pics of the old ess and new ess setup with them. You just find a silicone hose on Amazon and a smal filter to fit it.

You do not have flex fuel correct? Just dedicated E85 and 91 oct tunes that need to be loaded?

Here is the link to the video and he starts explaining the mod at 7:20 mark, he gained 35whp by doing so.

Not flex tune, it is a Full e85 map or a full 91 octane map. No flex option that I know of at this time.
