AiM smarty cam experience

I've kind of fallen into the AiM rabbit hole and will likely not set up the Catalyst for the new season. I'd like some sync'd video, and have been looking at the smarty cam, but am having a hard time with a barely-high def action cam for a thousand bucks. Are there other options that'll sync with RaceStudio? Or am I being stupid fixating on the resolution?

I am selling my Smartycam V2.1. Only been used for a few seasons. Let me know if you're interested. I am looking to switch over to the catalyst as I'm no longer crazy about deep diving into data and analytics. I just want to go on track, have fun, and share some videos with friends for shits and giggles. Are you open to trade?

I tried using race studio before and ultimately gave up with trying to sync up the data. I know it gets easier the more you use it, but I rather have something that's fully automatic.

Resolution wise, yes it is no GoPro or Catalyst or any modern video camera. The Smartycam was never marketed for creating 4k track videos. It is rather a tool to help you analysis your driving, and meant to quickly transfer from camera to laptop.

Just last week I placed an order for a SmartyCam 3 Corsa. Resolution is 1920 x 1080 at 60 FPS which is plenty of resolution for my needs.

I haven't gotten on the Catalyst train. Seems like a gimmick to me but I love data. I have a SmartyCAM 3 Corsa and it's great. Just make sure you get it set up right and it's pretty dummy proof.

The big selling point of the catalyst is that it’s really 0 setup. Two suction cups and a 12v plug. But yeah, I’ve run out of capabilities on it and the android tablet underlying it all is pretty terrible.

The AiM solo and smartycam is zero setup as well. Smartycam gets data from solo dl. One cable from smartycam to solo, and one cable from solo to car. You just start the car and drive and turn off car after your session. Solo and Smartycam will automatically start and stop everything. In the AiM race studio software you can sort and view video and telemetric by lap, session and etc. The software even allows you to view two side by side videos from different session/lap for comparison.

Yeah, I guess that's fair. I just think the Garmin is aiming (no put intended) for a more low-tech plug 'n play crowd. No data export (short of the vanity videos), no customization, odd track limitations etc.
