P0172 code- no symptoms but check engine light

My car has been throwing this code a couple times but hasn’t had any symtoms that I can see or feel. I was going to start by changing the maf and cleaning the sensor in the intake plenum. I can’t find the maf on the engine, anyone have a pic of the location? Any other suggestions?

There isn’t a MAF.

I was thinking that but everything I search in this code says check the maf. Ok, any other suggestions on what to check?

P0172 is a generic code which indicates the car is running rich. Could be a myriad of reasons. Best to get it on a proper BMW diagnostics computer to determine the actual cause.

There is no MAF but there is indeed a MAP sensor on the idle strip. It's on the Bank 2 side sort of beneath the throttle bodies and inside the V.

There is also definitely a PID for this that you can monitor in ISTA or with a scan tool.

I need to correct myself, there is a MAF type sensor for the secondary air injection system, in the big plastic hose coming off the pump. But it is not used in tuning tables like a MAF based system. Solely for secondary air pump/cold start emissions.
