We put the P65 from a Z4 GT3 in our 1M Clone

Our S65 swapped 1M was already a very special car, the high revving V8 in the smaller chassis was such a fun car to drive, but what if we took it even further?

Well how about the P65 V8 from a Z4 GT3 race car? Built by BMW Motorsport and costing €90,000 new this 4.4 litre V8 revs to 9000rpm and makes well over 500hp.

To the best of our knowledge no one has ever put one in a road car, so join us as we start building our ultimate race car for the road.

What’s the difference between the S65 4.4L and P65 4.4L after you make the P65 as a ”street version” ?
Does the same apply between S65 4.0L and P65 4.0L ?

For one the flat plane crankshaft is bespoke in the P65 vs S65



So "Street version" in a sense that; external ancillaries (dry sump, smaller race alternator that doesn't have to drive the immense amp draw of stock electronics like the nav, radio, ac, etc) will be removed and replaced with it's "street" based counterpart



The P65 architecture itself (flat plane crank, bespoke rods, pistons, compression, bore, cylinder liners, etc etc, that make this a race engine) will remain.

Not all P65s came with the flat plane crank, this one did not. Without that, the dry sump, the intake or the headers, I don't know why they would choose this over a Carbahn 4.6 w/ cams. Hopefully they got it for a good price. Is the stand alone completely necassary also? Maybe with the flat plane but wouldn't this be the same firing order as a normal S65 crank? Good marketing I suppose.

It looks like the P65 Evolve got isn't the FPC version. I hadn't realized that there were two versions using the P65B44 block, but I guess the GT2 cars were the only ones that got the FPC, so the Z4 GT3 car still had a cross-plane crank. Unfortunate that we won't get to hear the FPC, but still a pretty cool build even without the dry sump system.

But good catch. If FPC version, just about everything is bespoke as new cams, valve train and essentially apart from the casting, everything else is bespoke in the head with the FPC and new firing order

So yep. Great marketing. They even removed the custom plenum with the ram air induction.....because the evolve makes better induction noise..meh

So many things they undone that really takes away from the nature of the race engine....

They didn’t explain that the RHD steering column interfered with the dry sump system. But they mentioned it in the comments section. It’s a shame they couldn’t run it.

This is the closest we’re going to get to a P65B44. It sounds awesome on the engine dyno with Karbonius plenum.

I could be wrong but I think this is a + plane P65.

The sound of the flatplane P65 at 9k rpm is one of the best sounding engines!

These are both the same build. I recently re-read that Green-eggs thread and my takeaway was that the fpc build was an additional $5000 on top of the cost of a Carbahn 4.6 w/ cams
