Code #2721 - Vanos Maximum Stop inlet Bank 2

Having this persistent issue since swapping valve covers, and installing Vanos clip on covers. Any advice appreciated. Car feels fine, and the error comes on the first startup after a drive. Doesn’t occur while driving.

Have tried resetting Vanos adaptions and running the test cycle on ISTA. I am attaching screenshots in comments.

I have swapped left to right cam sensors, and pulled cleaned and swapped Vanos solenoids. Issue still persists. I did also have an error 279D voltage error on this scan, but that was the first time I’ve had this.

What else could be causing this? I can only think of something while clipping in the new covers?

As I’ve ruled out cam sensors and Vanos solenoid faults by swapping banks.

Any advice appreciated!

adjuster could be damaged, could be an issue with oil pressure as well, position sensor, etc. Did you drop anything during the job?

Well cam sensor was cleaned and swapped banks, as were the solenoids - but the problem remains in the same bank - so I don't think its either of those.

Oil pressure might make sense... as it seems only to ping on the second start up basically - so maybe as its cranking over. It also seems to track fine during the ISTA test which is confusing me. If it was faulty, id expect that massively out of whack.

When doing the job, I didn't change oil - so maybe dropping oil is the next diagnostic.

Just a follow up to this thread, the code has not come back after 1+ week of driving.

I noticed now in the attached picture it stated the code was not present, so it seems the cleaning of the vanos solenoids, replacing orings etc fixed the issue.

My guess some small debris was stuck in one of the solenoids and that was resolved with the clean/swap.
