Since we’re talking about Randy. Yep. Great guy and a fantastic product. Had issues with Alpines tune, switched to Epic, and couldn’t be happier. Pulls much smoother throughout rev range. Randy’s been doing this for forever, and his reputation and market share in the track/racing community speaks for itself.

Curious if anyone has slipped in a few gallons of E85 on a full tank when running the Epic tune? Mainly looking to decrease odors (or make them more pleasant) when running low cell (or no) cats.

Has anyone ever had a misfire code with an epic tune?
Ran into a car that was misfiring but won't throw a code, flashed back to stock, code appeared right away. Swapped coils and confirmed code moved. Honestly not a good sign for safety. |

Otherwise it's highly unsafe to have knock sensitivity turned down or off, for when there are issues, it can be catastrophic of not caught in time or noticed by the owner. Imagine what happens if someone keeps driving with a misfire and the car lets it because it doesn't go in limp mode. |

So you had a misfire, and when codes were pulled, do you remember what the code was? |

I don't think you guys are understanding or not reading everything I typed. I said the car was misfiring due to a bad coil and DME did not throw a code on the epic tune, but the car was not running right. Flashed back to stock and a misfire code popped up right away, moved when swapped coils. Coils were replaced and engine is running great, but there is now a lack of confidence in the tune if knock is being suppressed. Car ran for years without issue on the tune, the problem is when there is a issue if a tune is suppressing knock, the DME wont throw a code and it could be harmful to the engine. |

Misfires can cause knock, knock detection can detect misfires. If knock sensitivity is turned down/off by the tune, misfires/knock aren't detected or they are ignored........which is harmful to the engine.

Don't forget that in these engines the spark plugs are the knock sensors. When the spark plugs and or the coils start wearing, the knock detection becomes greatly reduced. In a performance tune, the knock parameters are reduced a bit to get more power out of the engine. If the plugs/ coils are worn with a tune you could see less knock detection.

While I agree with that, I can't explain why it wouldn't throw a code on the epic tune while it wasn't running properly, then when it was flashed back to stock , it threw a code almost right away and directed us to the problem (bad coil). So I'd like someone more knowledgeable to explain that. Gossypiboma seems to be a smartass, maybe he can enlighten us. |

Not long ago I put in just 1/4 of E85 to a tank that had 1/4 of gas and it was a nightmare. Same map, same everything, same station. Since E85 is not 85% of ethanol, I believe this one had a different blend. |

just wondering, how many people here are using stage 1 (no supporting mods) vs stage 2?
I'm interested in getting the epic stage 1 tune, but I'd love to hear people reviews specifically on the stage 1 tune. |
