swapping track and street pads -- do i need to re-bed?

If I understand it correctly, bedding pads isn't just about mechanical matching, it's also about pad material transfer onto the rotor, and pads need their own material on the rotor to work best. assuming that's the case, do I need to re-bed pads every time I swap track for street and vice versa?

I'm running stock textars right now, and will be swapping in track pads when I go next time..

Technically yes. You could try a dual purpose pad, but you'll be leaving some performance on the table at the track, which may or may not be a big deal to you.

You will need to bed in the track pads before each event, but not necessarily when switching back to the street pads.

may be a baby with the bathwater situation, but i tried some Hawk HPS 5 and really didn't like their street performance. no bite when cold and my non-track driving is mostly city so no chance to heat pads up..

Because the street pads will only see low stress wear at low temperatures. Eventually, the street pad compound will transfer to the rotor. However, the street pad compound may not be compatible with the track compound and it will be less effective (e.g. less friction, stopping power) at high temperatures which is something you don't want on track.

Bedding in new pads is important to release the gasses in them from manufacturing. After that's been done once for track pads and you're reinstalling them in the future, bedding them in again is solely for getting a pad compound layer transferred to the rotor which is easier to do.

If you don't want to be bothered with re-bedding you can go with Ferodo's offerings.

I use to swap between DS2500 and DS1.11

Ferodo says you do not need to rebed the pads when switching back and forth because their compounds are similar enough.

how's the initial bite on the 2500? that's what i hated about the HPS5.0.. they worked, but had no initial bite which i want on the street...

I thought the initial bite was really good. Can’t say the same about the 1.11s. They require some heat.

Some guys say they’ve experienced squeaking but I didn’t (2500s)
The 1.11s unless warm sound like a train coming into the station.

you can literally re-bed your brakes on the first session of your track event.

i do it all the time here in socal.

or i just take it to the back street prior to entrance lol

or just do the day before and you can just bed the brakes in on the way to the track.. and when you swap them out end of day youll end up re-bedding them again anyways.

This is why I use DSUno and only reason why I use DS2500. Other than that, I think the latter are crap/overrated. OEM are a better pad but not enough to warrant a re-bed.

I don’t bed in Cobalt Friction pads on either my street or race car. Matter of fact we will throw in new pads before a race and I just have a warm up lap to be ready for max attack.
