2009 s65 long block with 78k miles. Spun bearing number 1. Has upgraded BE rod bearings and ARP bolts, Bimmerworld dipstick oil pan mod installed. Was still running when removed. $1000 OBO. Pickup only.

i intended to pull the bedplate to confirm, but i just do not have the time or space to store it any longer.

I started the car one day after some high RPM driving at the tail of the dragon and I heard what sounded like very slight rod knock. So, I did an oil change and found glitter and lots of metal in oil filter. After that I pulled the oil pan and rod bearings and found the rod bearing on cylinder 1 was damaged and looks like it may have spun. I replaced the damaged rod bearing with one of my original rod bearings that was pulled when BE bearings were installed. Couple days later i drove to the dealership. Dealership confirmed spun rod bearing and recommended replacement. I had them install refurb engine and they gave me back my old engine. How long were u driving on the bad bearing? Was the crankshaft journal damaged as well?

Based on this description, almost sure you spun the main bearing. A spun main bearing can destroy the downstream rod bearings, but not visa-versa. When you replaced the #1 rod bearing and it was damaged a second time, that's a pretty clear sign that the main bearing caused the damage to the rod bearings.

I assume it was a main as well. I am not sure if driving to the dealership destroyed the replacement bearing, the engine was replaced soon after that, but i assume, the replacement bearing probably started to shear because the damaged main was probably preventing adequate oil flow to it.

Here is a picture of the slight damage to the journal before installing the replacement bearing. It drove just fine to the dealership which was about 4 miles away. I have not torn down the engine again after it was pulled to see if more damage was done.

Did you hear any rod knock after replacing the shells with BE Bearings and ARP bolts onto the slightly damaged crank journal shown above?

I had BE bearings already installed, prior to it spinning. I actually replaced the damaged shell with my original oem shell that I kept after having the BE bearings installed. I pulled the pan and confirmed that the oem shell i put back in before driving to the dealer appeared to have no additional wear. sorry for the really really late replay.

Dropped the price to $1000 OBO. I need to get rid of this, i just don't have the time or the room to tear this down to check for further damage.

78k is pretty low for MBs to seize up. How did the original RBs look?

Then, I doubt your Main Bearings gave out. If your #1 Main Bearing gave out it would have starved a lot more than just your #1 Rod Bearing. Oil stoppage at #1 would have dried out All the other Bearings in a daisy chain. Your #1 RB may have been too loose and you might have lost the oil film.
When you took out the spun #1 and replaced it with the original one, did the engine “knock” right away?
